Muzio Clementi: Six Sonatinas Op.36

Muzio Clementi's Six Sonatinas, Opus 36 was orinally published as a supplementary companion to the book Introduction To The Art Of Playing On The Piano Forte. Both publications are staples in the education of the pianist at all levels. Using the authentic edition produced by Clementi's own publishing company as a reference, this volume has been been meticulously edited by Willard Palmer. The dynamics, phrasing and ornamentation presented in this version are more accurate, readable and accessible that ever before, making this edition the most preferred for students and teachers.

Muzio Clementi: Piano Sonata In G Op.37 No.2

Clementi not only dedicated himself to the piano as a virtuoso and composer but also as a teacher, music publisher and instrument maker ? so it is no wonder that he was referred to as the ?Father of the Piano Forte? at the time. Alongside basic educational works he also wrote a great many instructive sonatas and sonatinas that form the basis of piano tuition even today. The Sonata in G major ? from his opus 37 that was published in 1798 ? is a must for all budding pianists. This is reason enough for us to publish this work of medium level of difficulty in a reasonably priced single edition. It was previously only available in a collected edition (HN 330).

The source of the present edition is preserved in the Archivio di Stato, Bologna. Editorial principles: In the score, the number of editorial interventions has been kept to a minimum. The original dynamic and expression markings are extremely few and far between, but precise. Only three dynamic levels are specified: forte, dolce ( = piano) and dolce assai ( = pianissimo). As regards expression markings we note the complete absence of the legato sign, though the appoggiatura, staccato, trill and two different types of bow-vibrato (both in association with dolce or dolce assai) can all be found. It is a well known fact that 18th century vibrato, obtained not by a movement of theleft hand but rather by a variation in the pressure of the bow, was an expressive effect to be used with discretion and not, as today, a constant means of sound production. Italian Concerto BWV 971 With Fingering

With fingerings by Renate Kretschmar-Fischer. The popular work known today as the Italian Concerto was published as Part 2 of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Clavier-Übung in 1735, togetherwith the Overture in B minor (BWV 831). Publications of music were a rarity in those days, and it stands to reason that Bach would select only pieces he found superior and representative. Originally written for atwo-manual Harpsichord, this music, with its terrace dynamics alternating between Piano and Forte, also reveals its full beauty when played on a modern piano, with the soloist vying with an imaginary orchestral tutti.Thisedition presents the Urtext of the »New Bach Edition« at the cutting edge of Bach scholarship. The fingerings have been added by Renate Kretschmar-Fischer, an internationally renowned pianist andteacher, offering valuable suggestions for study and lessons. J. S. Bach 's French Overture In B Minor BWV 831 was published, along with the Italian Concerto, as the second half of the Clavier-Übung II in 1735. This suite in B minor was originally scored for two-manual Harpsichord and is the longest Keyboard suite ever composed by Bach , with eleven movements. An earlier version of this work exists, in the key of C minor (BWV 831a); the work was transposed into B minor to complete the cycle of tonalities in Parts One and Two of the Clavier-Übung. The term overture refers to the fact that this suite starts with an overture movement, replacing the allemande found in Bach 's other Keyboard suites. There are optional dance movements both before and after the Sarabande and another unusual aspect of this work is the inclusion of an extra movement after the Gigue. This is an "echo", a piece meant to exploit the terraced loud and soft dynamics of the two-manual Harpsichord. Other movements also have dynamic indications (piano and forte), which are not often found in Keyboard suites of the Baroque period. This Henle Urtext Edition does not include fingering.
