Obradors Canciones Clasicas Espanolas Vol.4 Vce/pf

Fernando Obradors (1897-1945) was a self-taught composer and conductor. Born and raised in Catalonia, he spent most of his working life in the Canary Islands, but returned to Barcelona shortly before his death. Today, he is remembered best for his four volumes of classic Spanish folk songs, which he collected and arranged for solo Voice with Piano accompaniment. Canciones Clasicas Espanolas Vol. 4 is the last of these, written c.1941.

White Sonata

This work is called White Sonata because it is played on the piano only on the white keys (C major - A minor). The subtitle refers to the child in all of us, regardless of age, who never wanted to grow up, but was forced to do so.With reference to the title of Peter Pan, the theme has to do with the shattered innocence of children who are subjected to abuse and decide to take refuge in themselves. Written around a lullaby, it refers to how to build aninner world to survive.

Weiss: Tombeau Sur La Mort De Mr Compt De Logy (Balaguer)

Tombeau Sur La Mort De Mr Comte De Logy is a piece of music, originally for the Lute, that was written to commemorate the death of the Bohemian composer and lutenist, the Comte d’Logy, in 1721. It has been transcribed for the Guitar by the Spanish music editor and guitarist Rafael Balaguer . Sylvius Leopold Weiss (c.1687-1750) was a German composer and Lute player, who served as a court musician across Southern Europe. He was highly regarded by his contemporaries as both a composer and performer, and was said to be an equal to Bach in improvisation and counterpoint. He was probably the most prolific composer of Lute music in history.

Beethoven: Adagio De La Sonata Patetica

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) was a German composer and pianist, and arguably the most famous composer of all time. He was the last great figure of the Classical era, and helped pave the way for the Romantic style that followed. His compositions include 9 Symphonies, 5 Piano Concertos, 1 Violin Concerto, 32 Piano Sonatas, and 16 String Quartets. Beethoven’s Adagio from his Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, “Pathetique” (Op. 13) is one of his most celebrated compositions. It has been arranged for the Guitar by the Spanish guitarist, pianist and composer Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909). Tárrega is known for revolutionising classical Guitar technique, and also for transcribing many keyboard works for Guitar from the great classical composers, including Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Chopin.
