Harrison Birtwistle: Music In Sleep
Music for Sleep is designed to be played by children, and performed by the following voices and instruments: a) Children?s voices, unison, two and three parts b) Piano c) Three wind instruments (any one from each list) 1. piccolo, flute, sopranino recorder, descant recorder 2. flute, descant recorder 3. treble recorder, clarinet in B flat d) Three percussion players 1. Three suspended cymbals (S,M,L). For preference, the largest cymbal should be 22 inches and the smallest not less than 8 inches, to be played with felt sticks. 2. Two small drums of different sizes, without snares (not Bongos), to be played with felt sticks. 3. Claves, one maraca, tambourine (skin downwards), played by tapping on the edge with the fingers.
