Les Taylor: Gettysburg Train, The

The introduction imitates the sound of a train coming down the tracks. The piece maintains the same energy level throughout, and all parts are given interesting material. Surrounded by the sea, Ireland has historically relied on its ships as a means of transportation, trade, fishing, and exploration. Soon Hee Newbold uses various instruments to convey the rocking of the boats as well as the waves in the water. The celtic melody shines throughout over an occasional drone in the bass voices. A pizzicato section adds color and intensity to this vibrant work for strings. Strongly consider this one for your next concert!

Ludwig van Beethoven: Blues für Elise

This clever chart is unlike anything out there and really grooves! Based on Beethoven?s ever-popular für Elise, this jazz waltz is based on a C minor blues progression with a shout chorus in 4/4. This original collection of jazz solos asks the musical question, Do certain keys suggest a color? These haunting nocturnes, written in minor keys, depict the lyrical moods and textures associated with certain colors: Nocturne in Rose (romantic), Nocturne in Blue (reflective), Nocturne in Black & White (film noir), and Nocturne in Violet (sumptuous) have been written especially for the early advanced pianist. While written for the acoustic piano, they will also sound effective when played on digital or electric pianos.
