Andrew Oxspring: Do You Remember The First Time

Andrew Oxspring: Do You Remember The First Time

End of year/leavers musical for 7-11 years (KS2)Running time 60 minutes approx.Do you remember your first day at school? Or the first time you were sent to see the head? What about first time you stood on the starting line clutching an egg and spoon? School is the place where we experience many ?firsts?, and the most memorable can be re-lived through the songs and sketches in this hilarious, emotionally-charged new musical, which promises to deliver a bucket-load of laughs?and tears! Whatever else your children, their teachers and parents remember about school, this is a production they'll never ever forget!Plot summaryFour nervous candidates are waiting to be interviewed for their first ever job! As they sit in a state of agitation they begin talking to each other about life before they entered the big, bad world, and reminisce about the safety and security of being young and going to school. (song ? ?Do You Recall??) As they recall many of the ?first times? that school provided, it soon becomes clear that perhaps it wasn?t the plain-sailing, easy life they at first remembered it to be!Take your first ever day at school, for instance, and witness one family?s chaotic start to the morning. (song ? ?My First Day At School?) Will the crying stop long enough to get little Milly into her new school shoes and out of the door? And learning to tell the time? The frustration, the confusion, the pain?and that was just how the teacher felt! (song ? ?Telling The Time?) Making sense of a clock for the first time is far from easy, as we see in this scene!Waiting outside an office brings back a very memorable ?first? for the interviewees ? being sent to the head! What horrors lie in wait behind the door for a group of little ones who?ve been sent from the classroom in disgrace? (song ? ?I?ve Been sent To The Head?) Are the tales of canes and slippers, told to them by parents and grandparents, real or just folklore from a dark and distant past?!The first shot at sporting glory we ever get is taking part in the much celebrated Egg and Spoon race. For the watching parents it might only be a camcorder moment at which to go ?Aaaah!?, but for the competitors it?s the chance to be a hero! And every dirty trick in the book will be used to ensure this chance is not wasted! (song ? ?Egg And Spoon?)Who remembers the first time they were allowed to attend an after-school club? The promise of something exciting, out of the ordinary! For the group of children in this scene, perhaps the reality might not quite live up to the expectation! (song ? ?Football, Netball, Drama, Dance?)And finally, primary school gives us another first ? our first real goodbye. Leaving at the end of year 6 introduces us to new feelings and new expectations. Life seems to be getting more serious, but at the same time more exciting. All of this is wonderfully captured in the final scene, and song ? ?The End Of The Road?

Daisy Bond/Ian Faraday: Stargazers (KS1)

Christmas musical for 4-7 years.Running time 40 minutes (KS1) approx.Three wise men (Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar) have spent many years watching the night skies, waiting for the stars to reveal a sign of great things to come. As time goes by they have grown impatient, as well as old and grey! However, one night a brand new star appears, and they begin an eventful journey which ends with the realisation that some things in life are definitely worth waiting for!Plot summaryFor many long years three wise men, Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar, have been watching the night sky, studying the stars and waiting for them to reveal a sign of great importance. (song ? Stargazing) Not knowing quite what this sign will be, or when they?ll see it, they have become rather impatient ? after all, they are not as young as they used to be!One night, however, far away in a land to the west, a young woman called Mary is visited by an angel. He tells her she will soon bear God a son ? a son who will grow to be a saviour! (song ? The King Of All Kings) Not longer after, the three wise men suddenly see in the sky the sign they have been waiting for! (song ? A Brand New Star) As the heavens come alive with the arrival of a new star, the wise men consult the scriptures and know they must follow it to where a new king will be born. (song ? Saddle Up - part 1) Meanwhile, Mary and her husband-to-be, Joseph, must also leave their home town, and travel to Bethlehem to have their names included in a new register. (song ? Saddle Up - part 2) Little do they all know that their paths are soon to meet!As the star leads them westward, the wise men arrive at the palace of the cruel and selfish King Herod. He and his wife are, as usual, throwing a lavish knees-up for their many hangers-on! (song ? One Big Party) The king and queen are shocked to hear that these visitors are seeking a new baby king, and worry how His birth might affect their extravagant lifestyle! Herod cunningly asks the wise men to find the baby then tell him of His whereabouts, so he too can ?pay his respects?. He is, however, secretly planning to kill Him! In a dream the wise men are warned by angels not to return to tell Herod where the baby is, but to go straight home once they have found Him. (song ? Keep It A Secret)Mary and Joseph have now arrived in Bethlehem. Unable to find a proper room, they must make do with a stable in which to settle down for the night, and as the new star comes to rest overhead, Jesus is born. (song ? Heaven On Earth) Shepherds soon come to visit, bringing the gift of a lamb and worshipping by the manger in which He is lying. Then, just as He opens His eyes, Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar, guided by the star, arrive to greet the new king! They solemnly present the gifts they have brought, explaining the significance of each one. (song ? Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh)Heeding the words of the angels, the wise men head straight home. Although glad to be back, they reflect on the excitement of their journey following the star, and wonder what further adventures lie ahead. But until then, they relax on their sumptuous cushions and carry on doing what they do best...stargazing! (song ? Stargazing reprise)

Andrew Oxspring: School Daze - 10th Anniversary Edition

Andrew Oxspring: School Daze - 10th Anniversary Edition

End of year/leavers musical for 7-11 years (KS2)Running time 60 minutes approx.School Daze was Edgy Productions' first ever musical, released in January 2001. Over the years it has proved to be their most popular and best-selling end-of-year/leaver's production, but it's now showing its age! To mark its 10th anniversary it's had a complete makeover and, whilst still maintaining the charm and fun of the original, it now has extra brand new songs, a fresh and updated script and score, and re-recorded backing tracks. So, celebrate your children's time at school as we look back and laugh at those unique things that make it so special!Plot summaryThe year is 2075. Billy and Becky, two typical eleven-year-olds, are staying over at their grandparents? ?pod?, in the sheltered sector. Like all doting grandparents the old folks are keen to keep abreast of their grandchildren?s progress, and to gain an insight into their experiences of primary school ? or ?System A? as it is now known! Billy and Becky are also eager to learn of Grandma and Grandpa?s antics as they approached their teenage years, back in 2011. (song ? Old School Days)As the evening?s conversation wears on it becomes apparent that these children from the latter half of the 21st century are really no different to those who were leaving primary school back in the ?good old days?. Equally apparent is that some experiences of primary school span generations, and the truly noteworthy ones always involve larger-than-life characters and funny situations. Through a series of flashbacks, in the form of sketches and songs, we get an entertaining (if tongue-in-cheek) glimpse of the universal trials and tribulations involved in simply being young and going to school. For example, is it fair that teachers get to eat chocolate biscuits at break-time, while children make do with bits of fruit? (song ? Teachers Have It Easy) How can mums be made to understand that, now their children are getting older, they must not, under any circumstances, try to hold their hand on the way to school? (song ? A.T.T.I.T.U.D.E.) Does experimenting with makeup and hair-gel really improve ones appearance, especially when the skills of applying them haven?t quite been mastered yet? (song ? A Touch Of Lipstick) Will anyone ever develop a truly effective cure for a dose of nits? (song ? The Nits Blues) What?s the best way to get good SATs results without piling the pressure on? (song ? It?s Nearly Time To Take Your SATs) Who suffers most at parental consultations, and why do teachers choose to be ?economical? with the truth? (song ? Parental Consultation Evening) And who can forget desperately wanting to be grown-up, but having the feeling that maybe this is the best time of ones life, and every moment should be cherished? (song ? One Day At A Time).

Colin Magee/Andrew Oxspring: A Big Green Adventure

Colin Magee/Andrew Oxspring: A Big Green Adventure

All year round musical for 7-11 years (KS2)Running time 60 minutes approx. This fast-paced, fun-packed musical pulls no punches in delivering its big green message! Join Snowy and Chip on a voyage of discovery from their threatened forest home to the big city. Meet a host of colourful characters, including the ratty inhabitants of the landfill site, jet-lagged food items on the supermarket shelf, rush-hour drivers and the enigmatic Professor Plantpot, who all show us just how fragile our planet is... and what we can do about it!Plot summaryOur story begins with a meeting of the forest's animal elders, presided over by chief elder, Snowy. The untrustworthy and sneaky Weezil brings news that the humans have plans to 'develop' the forest, and suggests that giving their blessing to such a development would bring the forest residents a wonderful, new, hi-tech standard of living (song - What Kind Of World?'). The elders vote on whether or not to welcome the humans, but with the vote tied it rests with Snowy to decide their fate. Snowy consults the forest goddess, Natura, and is told to take a journey of discovery to the city before making a decision, to find out more about human behaviour. Leaving the future of the forest in the balance, Snowy, and fellow elder and friend Chip, embark on their adventure. As they set off, they experience first hand the plight of the forest's trees, and learn how man's actions have had a devastating effect (song - It Doesn't Pay To Be A Tree). But they also learn how human behaviour can change to reverse this effect. Next, the pair stumble upon the revolting, yet comical rats, Itchy and Scabs, who inhabit the landfill site. They witness the waste created by humans, and how this provides a 'paradise' for the roguish rodents! (song - Welcome To Our Paradise.)Next it's on to the supermarket, where Snowy and Chip meet some rather jet-lagged food items, who explain the environmental impact of their being flown thousands of miles just to satisfy human tastes for exotic and un-seasonal produce (song - What's The Deal?). Having learned what can and should be done to improve this situation, Snowy and Chip then encounter rush hour in the city (song - Driving Song)! They meet a very pushy car salesman, only to be 'rescued' by the brilliant Professor Plantpot who, along with some 'green' friends, explains that many humans do care about the planet, and are changing their behaviour accordingly.Snowy and Chip learn how, with a little thought and effort, humans can reduce global warming, save energy, and create less waste (song - Switch It Off). The professor also demonstrates the limitless possibilities of recycling (song - R.E.C.Y.C.L.E.), unveiling Robbie - a robot made entirely from junk! With their new friends in tow, Snowy and Chip are in a race against time to get back to the forest, which has now fallen under the control of Weezil! Will the humans and their bulldozers be welcomed with open arms? Will forest life ever be the same again? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, with the final song (Make A Change Today) still ringing in their ears, your audience will feel uplifted, inspired, and above all... thoroughly entertained!

Daisy Bond/Ian Faraday: Bethlehem's Buzzin'

Nativity musical for 4-7 years (KS1)Running time 45 minutes approx. This witty yet sensitive adaptation of the traditional nativity story is a delightful reminder of the true message of Christmas. Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel are three less-than-honest market stall holders, hoping to cash-in on the large number of visitors arriving in Bethlehem. Whilst giving it the ?hard sell? they encounter a tired couple on a donkey, a group of excitable shepherds and three mysterious visitors from the east, and are led to a lowly stable where they experience something that will change their lives forever!Plot summaryJacob, Rebecca and Samuel are stall-holders in Bethlehem?s busy, bustling market. However, always looking to make easy money, their way of doing business is a little less-than-honest! They shamelessly sell cheap and fake items, passing them off as genuine, quality goods! One day, lots of visitors arrive in town (song ? Bethlehem?s Buzzin?) and the three friends are eager to cash-in! Convinced they?ll be ?rolling in it? by the end of the day, (song ? Business Is Booming) they give it the hard sell! After a day?s record-breaking takings, just when they think it?s time to pack up, a tired man and woman (Mary and Joseph) approach Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel, (song ? A Long, Long Way) and ask if they know of a place to stay. Annoyed that the couple haven?t come to shop, the friends reply that they can lead them to a nearby inn, but will charge them to do so! As Mary is about to have a baby, they accept the offer and hand over what little money they have on arrival at the inn. However, it?s yet another dishonest trick. As the friends scarper with the money, Mary and Joseph discover there is no room at the inn, and the baby has to be born in a stable. (song ? A Baby Is Born Tonight)Back at their stall, about to pack up for the second time, Rebecca notices a bright light on the hillside. This is followed by the arrival of an excited group of shepherds, whom the three friends think have come to do some late-night shopping! However, to their disappointment, the shepherds tell them of a wondrous visit they?ve had by a host of angels, who?ve told them to come to Bethlehem (song ? Hurry Down The Hillside) to find a baby born in a stable. Guessing which stable they mean, the friends offer to lead the shepherds to it?for a price! The shepherds decline the offer, choosing instead to follow the star that the angels said would show them the way.About to pack up again, the stall-holders then notice three very distinguished-looking gentlemen, who look like they have a bit of money to spend! However, they are disappointed to hear that these visitors have also come looking for the baby (song ? Follow A Star), and not to part with their cash! Neither will they be taking up Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel?s ?kind? offer to lead them to the stable for a small fee, and they leave!Curious as to why all these people are so keen to visit this baby, the friends decide to go and see for themselves. On approaching the stable they are overwhelmed with a joyful feeling, and when they are invited to kneel by the manger something changes in their hearts forever! They recognise they have led dishonest lives, and promise to change for the sake of this baby boy. They stop cheating and swindling and instead set up a new business ? giving guided tours of Bethlehem to visitors, taking in al

Andrew Oxspring: A Blast From The Past

Andrew Oxspring: A Blast From The Past

End of year/leavers musical for 7-11 yearsRunning time 60 minutes approx.Try telling a child what school used to be like in Mum and Dad's (or even their grandparents') day, and they'd never believe you! Well, here's an opportunity to let them experience it for themselves, and also provide a nostalgic trip for those who can remember when free school milk came in bottles! When navy-blue knickers were every schoolgirl's must-have accessory! When a swish of the cane awaited any child who pushed their luck! When school photographs were taken with cameras that contained film, and everyone learned to read with 'Janet & John'. But although a lot has changed since then, one thing stays the same?the one thing that is celebrated in this fantastic new musical?school can be a lot of fun! Plot SummaryFollowing the opening song (?A Blast From The Past?) we join two children, Alice and James, at home with their family. They are feeling slightly put-out that a number of their classmates will be missing the final week at school in favour of early holidays to Disney World and Centre Parks, while they still have to face the daily grind! As Mum, Dad, Gran and Grandpa try to console them with the fact that their last week will be more relaxed, with trips, parties, non-uniform days and suchlike, the conversation turns to their own memories of school in the ?olden? days! These recollections provide us with some hilarious snapshots of what things used to be like in the dim and distant past! For example, what did school children used to wear? Well, with the aid of a catwalk, two flamboyant presenters and a few reluctant models, we find out the answer! In a fashion show that demonstrates what every discerning child would have worn to school through the ages, we are re-introduced to some memorable designs, culminating in the celebration of a truly classic item! (song ? ?Navy Blue Knickers?)Dad digs out an old whole-school photo and we learn how, with skill, timing and nimble feet, he?s managed to appear twice in the same picture! Confused? All is revealed, and we come to appreciate that having your photo taken at school these days can be a slightly more stressful affair for all concerned?especially the photographer! (song ? ?Sit Still And Smile?)James and Alice then listen in stunned silence as the adults talk about the methods that ?old-school? headteachers used to discipline unruly pupils! We witness a training day when enthusiastic heads are put through their paces and instructed in the best techniques for wielding a cane! Painfully funny! (song ? ?Six Of The Best?)Remember free school milk, in bottles? Mum and Dad certainly do, and also the thrill of being picked to be the ultimate teacher?s helper?.milk monitor! However, we soon discover that being given a daily bottle of the ?white stuff? didn?t always provide the benefits to a child?s health that it was supposed to! (song ? ?Drink Your Milk?)And what about learning to read? It used to be a much less-complicated affair, all done with those loveable and memorable characters, Janet and John. Forget phonemes, digraphs and compound-words, and enjoy a tongue-in-cheek reminder of when it was as simple as ABC! (song ? ?Pink For A Girl, Blue For A Boy?)As the family?s conversation draws to an end, Alice and James are filled with a new- found enthusiasm for going to school, and realise that thei

Andrew Oxspring: What Christmas Means To Me

Andrew Oxspring: What Christmas Means To Me

Christmas musical for 4-7 and 7-11 yearsRunning time 45 minutes (KS1) or 60 minutes (KS2) approx. This entertaining new musical takes a witty yet thoughtful look at the characters and events that shape our experiences of the festive season. Laugh at the blind panic of last-minute shoppers, Christmas day early-risers eager to get their hands on what?s under the tree, Christmas-cracker addicts, and the ageing Rich Clifford's annual challenge for the Christmas number one! But we also consider how Christmas came to be, and learn that all the trappings of our modern celebrations mean very little, unless we are able to share this time of year with our nearest and dearest. Plot summaryThe show begins with a resounding, whole-cast sing-a-long of the opening number - 'What Does Christmas Mean To You?' after which we find ourselves in the familiar surroundings of a classroom! Although it's the last few days of the school term, and the children think they should be taking it easy, the teacher still wants her class to produce one more piece of writing, entitled 'What Christmas Means To Me'. With the children's discussion of their ideas providing the continuity, we become witness to some truly entertaining seasonal delights! We all know what it's like, trying to do some last minute Christmas shopping, and the characters in our first scene sum up the experience beautifully, providing us with lots to laugh at! (song - 'I'd Rather Stay At Home')What would Christmas be without a festive song from an ageing pop star? Join daytime talk-show host, June Chandler, as she interviews the legendary 'Sir' Rich Clifford, who at sixty years old can still make his fans go week at the knees! Then sit back in a comfy chair and enjoy his not-quite-energetic performance, accompanied by his famous backing singers, the Bellafonté Sisters. (song - 'The Christmas Number One')How many children can resist the urge to get up at 3 o'clock on Christmas morning to see what presents Santa has left under the tree? Certainly not the one in this scene, which isn't surprising when the present in question is a shiny new games console! Mum and Dad's numerous attempts throughout the day to drag their youngster away from the TV screen are futile! And what about poor Grandma and Grandpa, who just want to sit on the settee and watch the Queen? (song - 'X-Box, Playstation or Wii')Christmas crackers - don't you just love them? Well, nobody loves them quite as much as the children in the next scene. Even when their relentless pursuit of 'bangs', paper hats and corny jokes threaten to ruin Christmas dinner, they still can't help themselves! And who can blame them! (song - 'Let's Pull Another Cracker')Next we are reminded of the reason why we celebrate Christmas - the Nativity. A traditional tableau is presented to a short narration of the bible story, and a meaningful new song - 'A Night To Remember'So, with lots to think about, the class conclude that Christmas can mean different things to different people, and our hopes for the 'big day' may not necessarily be the same as everyone else's. However, it is unanimously agreed that what really makes Christmas special is what many of us take for granted - the chance to spend some precious time with the people we love. (song - 'Just Being Together') After all, where's the fun in pulling a cracker on your own?

Andrew Oxspring/Mick Riddell: Primary School Christmas Musical

Andrew Oxspring/Mick Riddell: Primary School Christmas Musical

Christmas musical for 7-11 years (KS2)Running time 60 minutes approx. What goes into putting on a spectacular Christmas musical at school? Making costumes, painting scenery and learning lines aren't even the half of it! Join us on a truly rollercoaster ride, as we take a look behind the scenes at everything and everyone involved in making a school production happen. Through the eyes of nervous auditionees, frantic teachers, bopping TAs and camcorder-wielding parents, experience all the familiar highs and hiccups which always precede the big performance! With a lively script and seriously thumping good tunes guaranteed to have your audience dancing in the aisles, this musical is the ultimate way to celebrate Christmas at school!Plot summaryAs the opening song (Primary School Christmas Musical) finishes, Headteacher Miss Bright welcomes the audience. She explains that making it to tonight?s performance has been far from plain sailing, and that the trials and tribulations began as far back as September! In the first of a series of flashbacks we find ourselves witness to a staff meeting, where the Key Stage 1 teachers are relieved to learn that the enthusiastic Mrs Jolly, Mr Keen and Miss Swift will be taking over the reins of this year?s Christmas production, and plan to put on a ?glitzy? nativity musical with the Key Stage 2 children. (song ? Let?s Get This Show On The Road)Auditions follow, and in typical X-Factor style some children stun the teachers with their over-the-top efforts at securing lead roles! Nevertheless, the main parts are assigned and the children are informed they?ll be performing a nativity. Horrified that they will have to suffer the humiliation of wearing tea-towels and tinsel (something only infants should be doing), rumblings of mutiny can be felt amongst the cast. (song ? Don?t Wanna Do No Nativity) In spite of this lack of enthusiasm, preparations begin in earnest. Letters are sent home informing parents of their children?s involvement in the musical, and asking for help with such things as costumes. This leads to some typical outbursts of parental pride, pushiness and one-upmanship! (song ? Yours Sincerely)Next, the teaching assistants are drafted in to begin making scenery and assembling props. With skill and determination they set about their tasks??once they?ve had a cuppa! (song ? Get In The Groove)As the weeks pass, however, most people in school become fed up with the impact that the constant grind of rehearsals is having. The children complain that the hall is never free for PE, while the other KS2 teachers bemoan the fact that the children are exhausted and that there?s no work in their books to show parents on consultation evening. Even the kitchen staff feel put out ?rehearsals are constantly over-running and they?re unable to get into the hall early enough to set up for and serve lunch, resulting in frayed tempers and overcooked sausages! (song ? When All This Is over)Things come to a head during the dress rehearsal. In the face of un-finished scenery, an under-rehearsed script, ?diva? tantrums by lead actors and a general apathy and lack of effort all round, Mrs Jolly, Mr Keen and Miss Swift reach the end of their tethers! (song ? Rock-Bottom)In the midst of this chaos some unlikely heroic characters emerge, stepping up to the mark with passion and commitment to rally the disgruntled ensem

Nativity musical for 4-7 years (KS1)Running time 45 minutes approx.James dreams of a glamorous life as a fisherman on the great Sea of Galilee, but in reality his days are spent tending to the assorted livestock in the stable behind a small inn in Bethlehem. The arrival of lots of visitors (and donkeys) to the town one day, means that poor James has to work even harder, with no thanks from the grumpy innkeeper and his wife! However, as the events of that special night unfold, James realises that the future is brighter than he'd thought, and that dreams can indeed come true!Plot summaryIn the opening song (All Work, No Play), we meet James, who longs to escape his dull life tending to the animals in the stable behind an inn. The innkeeper, his wife and the maid only add to James?s woes, criticizing his work and calling him a ?lazy good-for-nothing?! Though fed-up with their harsh words, James finds comfort in his dream of one day becoming a fisherman, like those who visit the inn after a long but thrilling day aboard their boats on the Sea of Galilee (song ? A Fisherman?s Life). One morning James is told by the excited innkeeper that he needs to double his efforts around the stable, as Bethlehem is full of visitors all looking for a place to stay and to rest their donkeys after their long journeys (song ? Knock! Knock! Knock!). James has to forget his day-dreaming for a while, and concentrate on seeing to all the four-legged arrivals (song ? Donkey Work)! As James sleeps soundly, exhausted from his busiest day ever, the stable animals notice that the night sky seems far brighter than usual. They realise that, as the stars dance, it must be a sign that something wonderful is about to happen (song ? Song Of The Stars). As the largest star settles overhead, the innkeeper ushers in a woman (who is soon to have a baby) and a man. He explains that he can only offer them the stable, as the inn is full. He roughly wakes up James, telling him to tend to the couple?s donkey. The woman and man speak kindly to James, and he knows they must be very special people indeed. As a host of angels watches over the scene, James takes the donkey and leaves the couple to have their baby in peace (song ? Jesus Is Born). And the visitors just keep coming! First, some shepherds arrive with a lamb, much to the annoyance of the maid, who instructs James to stop the animal chewing her washing! Next come three royal visitors on camels (to which James must tend), with gifts for the baby. Soon the stable is full to bursting, as everyone gathers round the manger on which the baby is laid, and gives thanks for his birth (song ? Kneel At The Manger). When James is invited by the woman to come closer and see the baby, he is filled with a with a feeling of hope, believing his life can change for the better and that great things lie ahead for him.We learn, as a postscript from the narrators, that James's dreams of becoming a fisherman do indeed come true. One day he is greeted from his fishing boat by a gentle young man, whose eyes James recognises as those of the baby he met in the stable many years before. The man invites James to join Him, leading him on the biggest adventure of his life! (song ? Dreams Can Come True).
