Cantabile e Allegro : for trumpet and piano

Cantabile e Allegro was written in 1976 and was comissioned by the Conservatory in Antwerp for a test piece for a trumpet exam. A lively allegro follows the slow 'cantabile' introduction. This is a fantastic work in the repertoire for trumpet.

Fantasy for Marimba

Fantasy for Marimba was commissioned by the outstanding Japanese marimba player, Fumito Nunoya. Although it is written in concerto style, the piano not only accompanies the solo marimba but also plays an important part in the development of the work. The piece is written in four movements, played without a break: Allegro, Andante misterioso, Tempo rubato and Allegro energico. Also available for Marimbaphone and Piano.

This concert overture, which has the air of a symphonic poem, takes its inspiration from an ancient Roman bridge. A massive introduction, a threatening allegro and alternating virtuoso and chorale themes quickly succeed each other. Trombones and trumpets introduce a rhythmical theme which develops throughout all instrument groups. The allegro is characterised by a quasi-obsessive cadence which depicts a Roman army constantly beating time.

Andante : from Roma-Suite

The composition of the suite Roma was a labor of love for Bizet as it took some eight years to complete, originally being intended as a symphony. This Andante, together with an Allegro, forms the first movement of the work. Wilvan der Beek has created a beautiful, satisfying band arrangement of this little-known masterpiece.

A Grieg Suite
