Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is a turn-based strategy game that challenges players to build and maintain a self-sustaining human colony on an alien and dangerous planet. The title, developed by Firaxis Games studio, known from the production of Civilization games, can be safely called the spiritual heir to the legendary Alpha Centauri from 1999. Developers do not deny the obvious inspiration of the classic production, but point out that Beyond Earth should not be treated as a continuation. Rather, it is a new vision of what Civilization can look like in a futuristic and cosmic shell.We start the game with a small colony that is extremely vulnerable to attacks and various dangers. These include mainly alien life forms that will inhabit the planet in large numbers. Local fauna has a lot of nests on the map and they fiercely defend them, so expansion should be carried out much more carefully than in other scenes of civilization. Development is additionally slowed down by the fact that each newly established colony needs time and supplies of resources to obtain the status of a fully fledged city capable of production. Players can build improvements in the fields surrounding the housing estate, as well as erect new buildings and discover technologies. The most important innovation that Beyond Earth brings to Sid Meier's Civilization series is its refreshed approach to technology development. The well-known, linear tree has been replaced by the so-called "Technology network". When starting a research, the player finds himself in the center of research, from which there are more and more advanced fields of science.
