Cedrus Deodara Feelin’ Blue (Feelin’ Blue Cedar / Blue Deodar Cedar)

Cedrus Deodara Feelin’ Blue (Feelin’ Blue Cedar / Blue Deodar Cedar)

This is a dwarf strain of Cedrus Deodara – meaning it will not grow as high as its cousin the “Fountain Tree”. The Feelin’ Blue Cedar is a slow-growing conifer, that prefers to grow outwards horizontally, rather than upwards. This makes it a good choice for shrubbery, for protecting slopes from soil erosion and for marking property boundaries (you will probably have seen it used along the edges of shopping centre car parks, steering people towards the designated entrance/exit points). Native to the cold mountains of Kashmir, it gets its name from the blueish-green needles that burst from its long hanging branches. All conifers are known for their hardiness and resilience against the elements. We often think of them being heavily covered with snow during the winter, but they can look equally as bold and impressive against a bright blue summer sky. Conifers get their name from the "cones" that they produce – which come in all shapes and sizes. Conifer leaves are evergreen and will either be needle-shaped or scale-like. Deodar Cedar / Fountain Tree / Indian Cedar (Cedrus Deodara)

Deodar Cedar / Fountain Tree / Indian Cedar (Cedrus Deodara)

A traditional conifer that has a triangular shape in its youth, but gets more broad-branched with age. Native to the cold mountain ranges of Kashmir and Afghanistan, Deodar Cedar are extremely hardy and will thrive even in poor soil and with little water. The word “Deodara” originates from an old word for "deity" and as the name suggests, Deodar Cedar carry with them a great cultural significance in the Indian sub-continent. Planted by landscape designers for their impressive size and majestic branches, they will bring a calming presence to your garden.
