Laser-Matter Interaction for Radiation and Energy

Laser-Matter Interaction for Radiation and Energy

The interaction of high-power lasers with matter can generate Terahertz radiations that efficiently contribute to THz Time-Domain Spectroscopy and also would replace X-rays in medical and security applications. When a short intense laser pulse ionizes a gas it may produce new frequencies even in VUV to XUV domain. The duration of XUV pulses can be confined down to the isolated attosecond pulse levels required to study the electronic re-arrangement and ultrafast processes. Another important aspect of laser-matter interaction is the laser thermonuclear fusion control where accelerated particles also find an efficient use. This book provides comprehensive coverage of the most essential topics including Electromagnetic waves and lasers THz radiation using semiconducting materials / nanostructures / gases / plasmas Surface plasmon resonance THz radiation detection Particle acceleration technologies X-ray lasers High harmonics and attosecond lasers Laser based techniques of thermonuclear fusion Controlled fusion devices including NIF and ITER The book comprises of 11 chapters and every chapter starts with a lucid introduction to the main topic. Then sub-topics are sedulously discussed keeping in mind their basics methodology state-of-the-art and future perspective that will prove to be salutary for readers. High quality solved examples are appended to the chapters for their deep understanding and relevant applications. In view of the nature of the topics and their level of discussion this book is expected to have pre-eminent potential for researchers along with postgraduate and undergraduate students all over the world. | Laser-Matter Interaction for Radiation and Energy

Women of Color in the Aviation Industry

Women of Color in the Aviation Industry

Women of Color in the Aviation Industry offers a critical look at the reasons why the aviation industry remains underrepresented with minoritized groups particularly women of color. Despite the increased efforts to advocate for diversity equity and inclusion within the industry the diversity of its employees remains stagnant. Through interviews and conversations with a number of women of color this book argues that the industry is not doing enough to create and sustain a more equitable workforce. In this book readers will discover why less than 4% of qualified commercial airline pilots are women and of that less than 1% are Black women. The numbers of Latinx Indigenous people Asian and other people of color working in the aviation industry are lacking. This book explores how the aviation industry often fails to incorporate the experiences of women of color when developing and implementing diversity equity and inclusion initiatives and offers different perspectives on why it remains challenging to recruit and retain minoritized people to the industry. By bringing in the experiences of a variety of women this book asks readers to reflect on what it means for an organization to describe itself as one that supports diversity equity and inclusion. This timely important book is a valuable resource for a wide spectrum of researchers and students in aviation as well as gender race and ethnic studies. Whilst the examples in this book serve as a case study for aviation it can be used to examine other fields encountering similar challenges in creating a more equitable workforce.

Multicultural Counseling Perspectives from Counselors as Clients of Color

Multicultural Counseling Perspectives from Counselors as Clients of Color

This is the first book to explore the experiences of people of color in counseling from the perspective of individuals who are practicing counselors and were previously clients in counseling themselves. Marbley conducted a research study in which she interviewed eight individuals representing each of the major groups of color in the United States - African American Asian and Asian American Hispanic/Latino and American Indian to obtain the stories of their experiences in their own words. These stories provide insight into the problems in and failures of counseling services provided to people of color. She quotes extensively from these interviews throughout the book using the voices of the participants to highlight these shortcomings and personalize her discussion of the issues they have faced. A chapter is devoted to each of the groups of color as well as one to counseling issues related to gender. These chapters provide an overview of the literature on the historical experiences of these groups in mental health and a discussion of the counselors experiences and conclude with implications and recommendations for counseling and psychotherapy with these groups. Information from follow-up interviews conducted 12 years after the original ones are also provided to compare and contrast the participants responses to their earlier ones. Marbley concludes with a look at the need for a social justice movement within the mental health field in order to improve the experiences of and outcomes for people of color. | Multicultural Counseling Perspectives from Counselors as Clients of Color

If It's Purple Someone's Gonna Die The Power of Color in Visual Storytelling

If It's Purple Someone's Gonna Die is a must-read book for all film students film professionals and others interested in filmmaking. This enlightening book guides filmmakers toward making the right color selections for their films and helps movie buffs understand why they feel the way they do while watching movies that incorporate certain colors. Guided by her twenty-five years of research on the effects of color on behavior Bellantoni has grouped more than 60 films under the spheres of influence of six major colors each of which triggers very specific emotional states. For example the author explains that films with a dominant red influence have themes and characters that are powerful lusty defiant anxious angry or romantic and discusses specific films as examples. She explores each film describing how why and where a color influences emotions both in the characters on screen and in the audience. Each color section begins with an illustrated Home Page that includes examples anecdotes and tips for using or avoiding that particular color. Conversations with the author's colleagues - including award-winning production designers Henry Bumstead (Unforgiven) and Wynn Thomas (Malcolm X) and renowned cinematographers Roger Deakins (The Shawshank Redemption) and Edward Lachman (Far From Heaven) - reveal how color is often used to communicate what is not said. Bellantoni uses her research and experience to demonstrate how powerful color can be and to increase readers awareness of the colors around us and how they make us feel act and react. Learn how your choice of color can influence an audience's moods attitudes reactions and interpretations of your movie's plot. See your favorite films in a new light as the author points out important uses of color both instinctive and intentional. This book reflects the diversity and possibility of critical research in education with an emphasis on the examination of the intersections of social identities for men teachers of color and the relationship between social identity and struggles for political and professional agency. The authors address race and race inequality in education and provide a strong theoretical foundation for filling the empirical gap on men teachers of color by engaging in questions such as: How do critical considerations of the intersection of race gender and profession inform the future of teacher education? What does it mean to be ‘men’ or ‘of color’ in the context of the teaching profession in the U. S. and abroad? What are the aims of ethnoracial diversity in the field of education? The research included in this edited volume explores topics including but not limited to men teachers of color and their perceived pathways to the profession; their perceptions of and partnerships with colleagues of other genders; their sexual and gendered identities and performances; and how they embrace reject or negotiate the expectations of performing as a role model in classrooms. Moreover the chapters provide explicit implications for teachers teacher educators university and PK-12 administrators education activists and/or education policymakers. In sum this volume charts a new landscape in education research for all men teachers of color. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal Race Ethnicity and Education. | Men Educators of Color in U. S. Public Schools and Abroad

When a bone of unknown origin is found at a location forensic implications arise immediately. Is this bone human and if so is it evidence of a murder? Human and Non-Human Bone Identification: A Color Atlas presents a comprehensive handbook of photographs and other information essential for law enforcement and forensic anthropologists when examining skeletal remains and determining species and body parts. Presenting over 3000 color photographs this atlas is a practical comparative guide to the differences among species for nearly all bones in the body. Useful in either the laboratory or the field it features images of the types of bones that are most commonly discovered and provides annotations pointing out salient features. The book begins with a section on general osteology and explains the major anatomical differences between humans and other animals. It compares human and non-human bones categorized by type of bone and includes most of the major bones in humans and non-humans.
