Portuguese Laurel Cherry (Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia) – 3/4 Standard

Portuguese Laurel Cherry (Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia) – 3/4 Standard

Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia is a bushy, evergreen shrub which has been widely used since Victorian times to create Italian style gardens. It has an exotic appearance with dense large dark green leaves that appear on dark red stems. Angustifolia has narrower leaves than the species with stalks and new twigs of a brighter red colour. Portuguese Laurel bears numerous racemes of scented white flowers in June, which produce red turning to black berries much loved by birds. Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia is a frost hardy tree that does well in full sun but will thrive almost anywhere. It prefers acidic, permeable soil rich in organic matter. Once established it tolerates dry spells in summer although regular watering will result in richer and healthier foliage so continue watering in winter when the ground is not frozen. Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) – 3/4 Standard

Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) – 3/4 Standard

The Privet, also known as the Ligustrum, starts its tale from Asia, eventually extending into Australia and Europe. The actual plant is used as a street tree in Europe and has an interesting history in that it became very popular as a street ornament in Britain during WWII when the government started to requisition post-1850 iron gates and railings to be turned into ammunition for the war effort. The plant itself is semi-evergreen and is a very bushy shrub although this variant grows into a lovely lollipop shape hence its other name, ‘Lollipop Privet’. It produces abundant creamy white flowers with a rather unusual scent in late summer and small, black berries in autumn. It needs regular watering three times a week. The Hardiness rating is H6, meaning that it is perfect for the UK climate. Privet grows rapidly and needs clipping every two to three weeks in the summer months. Growth slows down and stops in September, after which the shrub will retain its shape until next spring. All parts of the plant are toxic and may cause severe discomfort if eaten. The soil needs to be well drained and a full sun or partial shade is recommended. Product Dimensions G8-10 cm: 25-35 litre pot, Trunk – 140-160 cm (4.6-5.2 ft) 10-12 cm: 25-35 litre pot, Trunk – 140-160 cm (4.6-5.2 ft) 12-14 cm: 25-35 litre pot, Trunk – 140-160 cm (4.6-5.2 ft) Latin Name: Ligustrum Jonandrum, Ligustrum Delavayanum English Name: Delavay Privet, Privet Tree Species: Jonandrum Genus: Ligustrum Foliage Type: Semi-Evergreen Foliage: Green Flower: Green with white flowers Flowering Period: June-July Suggested Location: Outdoor. Feijoa Sellowiana (Pineapple Guava Tree / Acca Sellowiana) – Standard

Pineapple Guava or Feijoa Sellowiana (named after Portuguese botanist Joo da Silva Feij) is a small evergreen, fruit bearing tree originating from Brazil and northern Argentina. Plants grown from seed will take 4-6 years to produce flowers and fruit. The oblong leaves are 7 cm long, green above with woolly white underside. Pineapple guava bark is initially light reddish brown but turns darker and peels with age. Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry Red Robin) - Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry Red Robin) - Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin, also known as Photinia Serrulata Red Robin or occasionally the Christmas Berry, is a group of evergreen shrubs grown specifically for glossy, dark green adult foliage, white flowers and brilliant red tinted young leaves; in the spring, they unfold to give a stunning display. The best known of the photinias is Photinia Red Robin, which is often planted as a specimen shrub or as a dense, evergreen hedge. A Christmas Berry Red Robin puts on a show all year round, with white springtime flowers and new leaves that start out as a vibrant red, before darkening to a glossy green as they age. These bright colours are popular with wildlife, but due to its loose branch structure, birds are unlikely to choose the Red Robin as a nesting location (which is ironic). Christmas Berry Red Robins are an excellent choice for creating interesting hedges and borders. Black Bamboo (Bambusa Phyllostachys Nigra)

Black Bamboo (Bambusa Phyllostachys Nigra)

One of the most elegant and distinctive types of bamboo. Its black canes can reach incredible heights. As you can see in some of the photos here on GardenPlantsOnline, Black Bamboo’s tall, slim canes are often ‘scorched’ with highlights of golden-brown. New shoots begin with the same bright green as the plant’s leaves, they eventually turn jet black after two years. This mix of contrasting colours creates a very bold and striking plant – undoubtedly this is what makes it the most desirable bamboo plant we sell. Bamboo is one of the world’s fastest growing plant-types. Traditionally from Asia, its hardiness means it can actually be grown very easily in Britain – visitors to your garden will be surprised and impressed to see it there. As a forest plant, it appreciates a steady supply of moisture and compost. And as an enthusiastic grower, you should give Bamboo room to expand, we suggest placing infant plants about 100cm apart. Photinia Serrulata Red Robin - Ball

Photinia Serrulata Red Robin - Ball

The Photinia Serrulata, also known as Red Robin Tree or occasionally the Christmas Berry, is a group of evergreen shrubs grown specifically for glossy, dark green adult foliage, white flowers and brilliant red tinted young leaves; in the spring, they unfold to give a stunning display. Tilia x Europaea Pallida (Common Lime) - Standard Pleached

Tilia x Europaea Pallida (Common Lime) - Standard Pleached

Tilia ’Pallida’ is a fast growing, deciduous tree which establishes quickly. Tilia europaea is a hybrid which occurs naturally from parent plants Tilia Cordata (Small-Leaved Lime) and Tilia Platyphyllos (Large-Leaved Lime). Popular for its uniform pyramidal habit, it thrives in a wide range of conditions and tolerates urban environments. The summer flowers are sweetly scented and borne in clusters. The fruit which follows is a nut like drupe, about the same size as a garden pea. The lush green foliage has a greenish yellow underside, slightly hairy and with tufts of brown hair in the leaf axils. In autumn, the foliage turns a rich, buttery yellow.
