Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry Red Robin) - Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry Red Robin) - Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin, also known as Photinia Serrulata Red Robin or occasionally the Christmas Berry, is a group of evergreen shrubs grown specifically for glossy, dark green adult foliage, white flowers and brilliant red tinted young leaves; in the spring, they unfold to give a stunning display. The best known of the photinias is Photinia Red Robin, which is often planted as a specimen shrub or as a dense, evergreen hedge. A Christmas Berry Red Robin puts on a show all year round, with white springtime flowers and new leaves that start out as a vibrant red, before darkening to a glossy green as they age. These bright colours are popular with wildlife, but due to its loose branch structure, birds are unlikely to choose the Red Robin as a nesting location (which is ironic). Christmas Berry Red Robins are an excellent choice for creating interesting hedges and borders. Common Olive Tree (Olea Europaea) - Half Standard

Common Olive Tree (Olea Europaea) - Half Standard

Olea Europaea olive fruit tree is increasingly being grown in containers as a Specimen Plant in UK gardens. The attractive evergreen foliage accounts for its popularity as the olive tree retains its pointed leathery grey-green leaves all year round.Tiny scented white flowers appear in late spring often followed later in the year by small, ornamental fruit. For the olive tree fruit to ripen fully, it needs a long, hot summer followed by a cooler winter, though the exact temperatures depend on the specific cultivar. Despite this, some gardeners in milder parts of the UK have managed to grow edible olives from their own olive tree. This plant needs plenty of natural sunlight and it has a hardiness rating of H4, making it very durable in the UK’s climate. Just make sure to shelter the plants during extreme cold snaps.Try to give this plant a once year trim and follow the guidelines of pruning group 1 for further ideas. The plant is generally disease free but has a potential problem with pests. Citrus x Sinensis (Orange Trees) - Half Standard

Citrus x Sinensis (Orange Trees) - Half Standard

Citrus × Sinensis, also known as the Citrus Aurantium (Sweet Orange Group), includes the commonly cultivated sweet oranges, including blood oranges and navel oranges. The origin of the original plant is obscure to history but it is believed to have originated in southern Asia, particularly South China and Vietnam. The plant starts to bloom from Spring until Autumn. Producing delightfully fragrant fruit and blossom, orange trees are an interesting way of bringing rich colour to your garden. Susceptible to frost, oranges can be kept indoors during the winter months but must be situated in an area with plenty of sun. Tolerant of most soil types, they need lots of watering when the surrounding soil is dry but be careful not to over-water. Pruning can be done to encourage further growth and increased fruition. It has a low tolerance to cold weather being only a H3 on the hardiness scale, therefore it is best to keep this plant in warmer conditions the best you can. Stick to pruning group 1 for guidance on how to maintain this plant. The plant is generally disease free but be careful of potential pests. Ilex x Nellie R.Stevens (Holly) - Half Standard

Ilex x Nellie R.Stevens (Holly) - Half Standard

The Ilex x Nellie R.Stevens is a holly plant that is a cross between English holly ilex aquifolium and Chinese holly ilex cornuta. The plant itself with its beautiful glossy green leaves and red berries has always been traditionally seen in Europe and America as Christmas holly and used in some European countries to ward off evil spirits by hanging them above the doorway. The flowering period is April where it usually starts to blossom its small white flowers and during the Autumn-Winter period, the actual berries themselves start to form. It is a bushy plant with a fast growth speed. It does not requiring maintenance but a quick trim in the summer could help if the leaves get a bit too long. The hardiness of this plant at H6 is perfect for the British climate and only during the extreme cold do you need to shelter it. Be careful of pests and potentially the holly leaf disease with this plant. Be careful not to eat the berries, no matter how inviting they may seem, as they could cause potentially a minor stomach upset if ingested. Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) - Half Standard Ball

Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) - Half Standard Ball

The Privet, also known as the Ligustrum, starts its tale from Asia, eventually extending into Australia and Europe. The actual plant is used as a street tree in Europe and has an interesting history in that it became very popular as a street ornament in Britain during WWII when the government started to requisition post-1850 iron gates and railings to be turned into ammunition for the war effort. The plant itself is semi-evergreen and is a very bushy shrub although this variant grows into a lovely lollipop shape hence its other name, ‘Lollipop Privet’. It produces abundant creamy white flowers with a rather unusual scent in late summer and small, black berries in autumn. It needs regular watering three times a week. The Hardiness rating is H6, meaning that it is perfect for the UK climate. Privet grows rapidly and needs clipping every two to three weeks in the summer months. Growth slows down and stops in September, after which the shrub will retain its shape until next spring .All parts of the plant are toxic and may cause severe discomfort if eaten. The soil needs to be well drained and a full sun or partial shade is recommended. Laurus Nobilis, also known as the Bay Laurel, Bay Tree, True Laurel or Grecian laurel tree is a popular fragrant evergreen plant suitable for containers or planted in the ground as a small tree. Bay leaves can be used fresh or dried in cooking to give a fragrant flavour to soups and stews. Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry) – Half Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry) – Half Standard

The Photinia Serrulata, also known as Red Robin Tree or occasionally the Christmas Berry, is a group of evergreen shrubs grown specifically for glossy, dark green adult foliage, white flowers and brilliant red tinted young leaves; in the spring, they unfold to give a stunning display. Common Olive Tree (Olea Europaea) – Quarter Standard

Common Olive Tree (Olea Europaea) – Quarter Standard

Olea Europaea olive fruit tree is increasingly being grown in containers as a Specimen Plant in UK gardens. The attractive evergreen foliage accounts for its popularity as the olive tree retains its pointed leathery grey-green leaves all year round. Tiny scented white flowers appear in late spring often followed later in the year by small, ornamental fruit. Photinia Serrulata Red Robin – Cone

Photinia Serrulata Red Robin – Cone

The Photinia Serrulata, also known as Red Robin Tree or occasionally the Christmas Berry, is a group of evergreen shrubs grown specifically for glossy, dark green adult foliage, white flowers and brilliant red tinted young leaves; in the spring, they unfold to give a stunning display.
