This Conté a Paris Carres Set contains 12 tonal sketching crayons, favoured by artists for generations. They are renowned for their smooth consistency and square profile which enables the artist to put down a sharp or broad stroke. This is why so many portrait and other sketches are undertaken in Conté Carres. They are produced by the worlds leading manufacturer of dry art products - Conté à Paris. The twelve sticks are all contained in a hinge lid plastic case which protects each stick from damage. Carres crayons are are harder than pastels or charcoals. This hardness creates crisp, tight lines rather than the more smudged look of pastel and charcoal. They are produced from a highly rigorous choice of pigments, clay and a binder. They are then baked after being extruded and dried.

These crayons are very soft and are manufactured using natural pigments (iron oxides, carbon black, and titanium dioxide), clay (kaolin) and a binder (cellulose ether). They are then baked after being extruded and dried. The degree of baking varies the grade of the black and white crayons. They are softer in texture than a pencil making them excellent for sketching and layout work together with monochrome and polychrome design work. They may also be used in conjunction with paper stumps and putty rubbers. This set contains 12 assorted colours. Use the flat edge of the pastel by varying the pressure - the greater the pressure on the pastel, the denser will be the colour you'll obtain. Holding the carre upright or slightly slanted, you can draw using the 8 angles at the end of the pastel, allowing you to sketch and structure your drawing. Supports all types of grained papers (mainly semi-coloured papers), canvases and many other surfaces with varying results.

Conté à Paris - Charcoal & Pastel Fixative (400ml)
