Ilex x Nellie R.Stevens (Holly) - Standard Pleached

Ilex x Nellie R.Stevens (Holly) - Standard Pleached

The Ilex x Nellie R.Stevens is a holly plant that is a cross between English holly ilex aquifolium and Chinese holly ilex cornuta. The plant itself with its beautiful glossy green leaves and red berries has always been traditionally seen in Europe and America as Christmas holly and used in some European countries to ward off evil spirits by hanging them above the doorway. The flowering period is April where it usually starts to blossom its small white flowers and during the Autumn-Winter period, the actual berries themselves start to form. It is a bushy plant with a fast growth speed. It does not requiring maintenance but a quick trim in the summer could help if the leaves get a bit too long. The hardiness of this plant at H6 is perfect for the British climate and only during the extreme cold do you need to shelter it. Be careful of pests and potentially the holly leaf disease with this plant. Be careful not to eat the berries, no matter how inviting they may seem, as they could cause potentially a minor stomach upset if ingested. Portuguese Laurel Cherry (Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia) - Standard

Portuguese Laurel Cherry (Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia) - Standard

Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia is a bushy, evergreen shrub which has been widely used since Victorian times to create Italian style gardens. It has an exotic appearance with dense large dark green leaves that appear on dark red stems. Angustifolia has narrower leaves than the species with stalks and new twigs of a brighter red colour. Portuguese Laurel bears numerous racemes of scented white flowers in June, which produce red turning to black berries much loved by birds. Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia is a frost hardy tree that does well in full sun but will thrive almost anywhere. It prefers acidic, permeable soil rich in organic matter. Once established it tolerates dry spells in summer although regular watering will result in richer and healthier foliage so continue watering in winter when the ground is not frozen. Mexican Fan Palm / Skyduster (Washingtonia Robusta)

Mexican Fan Palm / Skyduster (Washingtonia Robusta)

There are two main commonly cultivated Washingtonia species: Washingtonia robusta ( Mexican palm, Skyduster, Petticoat Palm) and Washingtonia filifera (California fan palm). Washingtonia filifera differs from W. robusta by width of trunk, erectness of fronds, presence of strings on frond margins, gray-green color, and cold hardiness. The two species can also hybridise. Washingtonia filifera has fan-shaped greyish green fronds 1-2m across whose tips arch down. Its margins are more stringy than Washingtonia robusta. These palm trees look really attractive when old dead fronds are allowed to accumulate against the trunk giving it a shaggy appearance. The inflorescence on stalks extending beyond foliage bears small off-white flowers which produce tiny black berries. The tree is not very hardy at H1C so shelter during normal British winter. The plant itself is prone to potential pests but no diseases. Follow the guide below on how to maintain this plant. Product Dimensions 40-60 cm: 7-10 litre pot 60-80 cm: 10 litre pot 80-100 cm: 18-25 litre pot 100-125 cm: 30-35 litre pot 125-150 cm: 40-45 litre pot 150-175 cm: 55-65 litre pot 175-200 cm: 90-110 litre pot 200-250 cm: 110-130 litre pot 250-300 cm: 230-290 litre pot Latin Name: Washingtonia Robusta English Name: Mexican Fan Palm, Skyduster Species: Arecaceae Genus: Washingtonia Foliage Type: Evergreen Foliage: Green Flower: White (with brown fruit) Flowering Period: Spring - Summer Suggested Location: Outdoor. Taxus Baccata (English Yew) – Shrub

Taxus Baccata (English Yew) – Shrub

Taxus Baccata - conifer with main horizontal branches and secondary branches short and weeping. Grows well in fertile, well drained soil including chalky and acid soil. Withstands being covered by old trees. Used a lot for hedges because it tolerates severe, repeated pruning and it is also for this reason that this plant is used for creating geometric shapes and Giant Garden Bonsai. Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry Red Robin) - Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin (Christmas Berry Red Robin) - Standard

Photinia x Fraseri Red Robin, also known as Photinia Serrulata Red Robin or occasionally the Christmas Berry, is a group of evergreen shrubs grown specifically for glossy, dark green adult foliage, white flowers and brilliant red tinted young leaves; in the spring, they unfold to give a stunning display. The best known of the photinias is Photinia Red Robin, which is often planted as a specimen shrub or as a dense, evergreen hedge. Quercus Ilex (Holm Oak Tree / Holly Oak) - Standard

Quercus Ilex (Holm Oak Tree / Holly Oak) - Standard

Commonly called the Holly Oak tree, Quercus Ilex often live for more than a thousand years. They are large evergreens with very dense crowns of leaves. They have strong polymorphic leaf of 2 - 9cm long; the younger leaves are wider and have toothed, sharp margins. The colour and texture of the Quercus Ilex varies from hairy, tender and pale green when they first appear to a leathery, dark green, covered in soft white hairs on the underside, when adult. Both male and female flowers are borne on catkins and appear in June, the first ones being the most decorative as they are a soft yellow. Grows in poor soil, but prefers calcareous, and does not like clay. Will withstand a lack of water in hot, dry summers and tolerates any kind of pruning. These are effective wind breaks, are suited to full sun or shade, good on their own or in groups and resists the salty winds of a sea climate very well, without damage to the beautiful foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H4 making it good for the British climate but better take measures to protect it during extreme cold snaps. It is prone to pests but is generally disease free. Tilia x Europaea Pallida (Common Lime) - Standard Pleached

Tilia ’Pallida’ is a fast growing, deciduous tree which establishes quickly. Tilia europaea is a hybrid which occurs naturally from parent plants Tilia Cordata (Small-Leaved Lime) and Tilia Platyphyllos (Large-Leaved Lime). Popular for its uniform pyramidal habit, it thrives in a wide range of conditions and tolerates urban environments. The summer flowers are sweetly scented and borne in clusters. The fruit which follows is a nut like drupe, about the same size as a garden pea. The lush green foliage has a greenish yellow underside, slightly hairy and with tufts of brown hair in the leaf axils. In autumn, the foliage turns a rich, buttery yellow. It's tolerance of pruning makes it a very adaptable for pollarding or training if needed, often used for pleached or box head trees. Thuja Orientalis Pyramidalis Aurea (Golden Pyramidal Thuja)

Thuja Orientalis Pyramidalis Aurea (Golden Pyramidal Thuja)

A bright and cheery Thuja Plant with dense yellow-green foliage. The thick foliage of the Golden Pyramid Thuja is fresh green in its youth and matures to a golden-yellow in the summer/autumn, before gaining a reddish-bronze glow in the winter. As you can see from the photos here on GardenPlantsOnline, its natural shape is actually a pointed-oval – a lot narrower than the triangular pyramid that its name implies. This is a very low-maintenance tree that needs almost no attention once it has established itself and acclimatised to your garden. All conifers are known for their hardiness and resilience against the elements. We often think of them being heavily covered with snow during the winter, but they can look equally as bold and impressive against a bright blue summer sky. Conifers get their name from the "cones" that they produce – which come in all shapes and sizes. Conifer leaves are evergreen and will either be needle-shaped or scale-like.
