Sherlock Holmes: Crime and Punishment is the next installment of the popular series of adventure games by Frogwares studio. The title character of the series is a man endowed with an outstanding deductive talent, equipped with knowledge of exact sciences and an impressive home archive, a ballistics expert, a good boxer and an excellent observer, known as an all-time detective.
The plot of the production takes us back to the past, to London from the Victorian era (1837-1901). Players once again play the role of Holmes to conduct extremely difficult investigations in his skin. This time, not one, but as many as six complex issues to be solved before the protagonist. During the adventure, a popular detective mainly deals with mysterious murders, but he also gets an audacious theft and no less audacious kidnapping.
In Crime and Punishment, the authors decided to make a number of changes in the gameplay mechanisms compared to the previous installments of the series. During the ongoing investigation, there are opportunities to make choices, including those of a moral nature that directly affect the course of the game - you can misidentify the culprit and complete the investigation prematurely. Our final decisions also have a significant impact on the fate of those involved in a given case. Each of the six chapters is a closed story and the decisions do not affect the further course of the game.
This time, the creators decided to give up their proprietary engine in favor of Unreal Engine 3, which undoubtedly improved the visual experience while interacting with the game. We follow the action from a third person perspective, and the FPP view appears only when solving some puzzles. The appearance of Sherlock himself has also been refreshed, his new image now looks much more contemporary.
