X-Ray Diffraction for Materials Research From Fundamentals to Applications

X-Ray Diffraction for Materials Research From Fundamentals to Applications

X-ray diffraction is a useful and powerful analysis technique for characterizing crystalline materials commonly employed in MSE physics and chemistry. This informative new book describes the principles of X-ray diffraction and its applications to materials characterization. It consists of three parts. The first deals with elementary crystallography and optics which is essential for understanding the theory of X-ray diffraction discussed in the second section of the book. Part 2 describes how the X-ray diffraction can be applied for characterizing such various forms of materials as thin films single crystals and powders. The third section of the book covers applications of X-ray diffraction. The book presents a number of examples to help readers better comprehend the subject. X-Ray Diffraction for Materials Research: From Fundamentals to Applications also • provides background knowledge of diffraction to enable nonspecialists to become familiar with the topics• covers the practical applications as well as the underlying principle of X-ray diffraction• presents appropriate examples with answers to help readers understand the contents more easily• includes thin film characterization by X-ray diffraction with relevant experimental techniques• presents a huge number of elaborately drawn graphics to help illustrate the content The book will help readers (students and researchers in materials science physics and chemistry) understand crystallography and crystal structures interference and diffraction structural analysis of bulk materials characterization of thin films and nondestructive measurement of internal stress and phase transition. Diffraction is an optical phenomenon and thus can be better understood when it is explained with an optical approach which has been neglected in other books. This book helps to fill that gap providing information to convey the concept of X-ray diffraction and how it can be applied to the materials analysis. This book will be a valuable reference book for researchers in the field and will work well as a good introductory book of X-ray diffraction for students in materials science physics and chemistry. | X-Ray Diffraction for Materials Research From Fundamentals to Applications

Biocontrol Systems and Plant Physiology in Modern Agriculture Processes Strategies Innovations

Biocontrol Systems and Plant Physiology in Modern Agriculture Processes Strategies Innovations

Biocontrol Systems and Plant Physiology in Modern Agriculture: Processes Strategies Innovations focuses on new production alternatives that do not include pesticides herbicides or chemicals for primary food production and instead rely on biologically controlled systems of production. The book also relates a number of advances and innovations in the use of agricultural technologies that employ the study of the physiology of plants to know their resistance to different environments in modern agriculture. The book presents research offering viable alternatives for the control of pests for safe food production that are environmentally friendly and that facilitate the reduction of production costs and improve the quality and yield of produce. The volume addresses innovative biocontrol systems to reduce or eliminate the use of agrochemicals by controlling plant diseases by minimizing environmental damage through the use of antagonistic organisms. It also presents new strategies of cultivation that maximize production by optimizing light temperature humidity nutrients and humidity in a controlled environment. The diverse topics in the volume include botanical compounds as adjuvants as an alternative to reduce the pesticide use on-site production of bio-control agents plant factory systems that offer controlled safe environments for plant cultivation promising bio-nematicides for sustainable agriculture wastewater reclamation for agricultural purposes the recovery of phytochemicals from plants using LED lights on plants and microgreens production and much more. Covering the new trends in biological control plant factories and plant metabolism for application in modern agriculture this volume provides important research and knowledge that facilitates environmentally friendly plant systems advances the reduction of production costs and improves the quality and yield of produce. | Biocontrol Systems and Plant Physiology in Modern Agriculture Processes Strategies Innovations

Clinical Atlas of Polysomnography

Clinical Atlas of Polysomnography

Written for sleep technologists Clinical Atlas of Polysomnography provides basic information regarding normal sleep sleep disorders and electrophysiology that is outside of the scope of the AASM manual (AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events). It aims to act as a guide through the fundamental aspects of for example types of overnight sleep study establishing a sleep laboratory preparing the patient for a sleep evaluation study placement of electrodes and leads and the scientific aspects of such placement i. e. why they are placed at that particular position. This information will be very useful in those parts of the globe where formal training in sleep technology is not yet available. Many further chapters focus on depicting real-time illustrations of sleep data as captured in the sleep laboratory and the scoring of recording data. Information regarding common montages artifacts and troubleshooting in the sleep laboratory will facilitate the reader’s journey as a trainee sleep technologist. While scoring sleep recordings the When you score the data histogram can provide a great deal of useful information and this has been explained in detail in this book. Most importantly it is prudent to be able to write reports that are both informative and easy to understand by physicians who do not have advanced knowledge of sleep medicine. A chapter has been dedicated to explaining this in detail. Lastly the authors have provided ready-made forms questionnaires and documents that can either be used as they are or with some modifications. This up-to-date and comprehensive volume will be an invaluable guide for technicians and physicians who wish to practice sleep medicine and will be useful for sleep technology and physician training programs. The volume is intended to complement not be a substitute for the AASM scoring manual as many areas that are covered in the manual are not covered here.

Elastomer-Based Composite Materials Mechanical Dynamic and Microwave Properties and Engineering Applications

Elastomer-Based Composite Materials Mechanical Dynamic and Microwave Properties and Engineering Applications

Elastomer-Based Composite Materials: Mechanical Dynamic and Microwave Properties and Engineering Applications is focused on elastomer-based composite materials comprising different types of reinforcing fillers. The book provides an informative examination of the possibilities for broadening the engineering applications of elastomer composites through using various types of hybrid fillers ferrites and ceramics and also examines their synthesis and characterization. It discusses new hybrid fillers that have been synthesized by different techniques e. g. impregnation of different substrates (carbon black conductive carbon black activated carbons etc. ) with silica or magnetite. These new fillers have been thoroughly characterized by standard techniques and by up-to-date methods such as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM-EDX) atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). The effect of those fillers upon the curing properties mechanical and dynamic parameters electrical conductivity and dielectric and microwave characteristics of elastomer-based composites is discussed in detail in this volume. The book also covers the influence of various types of ceramics (SiC B4C and TiB2) and barium and strontium hexaferrites upon the aforementioned properties of rubber composites in conjunction with a view toward solutions for environmental problems caused by waste tires. The book shows that pyrolysis-cum-water vapor is a suitable and environmentally friendly method for the conversion of the waste green tires into useful carbon-silica hybrid fillers. The properties of elastomer-based composites comprising different types of nanostructures (fullerenes carbon nanotubes graphene nanoplatelets) modified activated carbons and calcined kaolin are also discussed. Special attention is paid to composites with lower levels of zinc oxide. The volume provides an abundance of knowledge on the detailed characterization of these fillers and on the curing mechanical dynamic mechanical and dielectric and microwave properties of the elastomeric composites. The book surveys the most recent research activities of the authors which will make it a vital reference source for scientists in both the academic and industrial sectors as well as for individuals who are interested in rubber materials. It will be very useful for students especially PhD students scientists lecturers and engineers working or doing research in the field of polymer materials science elastomer-based composites and nanocomposites and their engineering applications in the production of microwave absorbers and electromagnetic waves shielding materials materials for electronics devices and telecommunications. | Elastomer-Based Composite Materials Mechanical Dynamic and Microwave Properties and Engineering Applications
