Heidell Navy Strength Gin 50cl

Heidell Navy Strength Gin 50cl

Heidell Navy Strength Gin Whilst Heidell Gin is a relative newcomer to the gin world, their signature gin has already won a Silver award from the London Spirits Competition. As with its little brother, their Navy Strength is also produced in Naantali, a town located in the Finnish Archipelago - the South West of Finland (west of Helsinki). They utilise as many local ingredients as they can, crystal clear Finnish water, a Dutch still and take inspiration from the Sea - doubly important in a Navy Strength edition. With their Master Distiller being a retired Naval Officer, it should come as no surprise that they would launch a Navy Strength gin. This is the big brother of Heidell Gin, a true handcrafted gin which combines a traditional gin taste - but powered up.... with the aroma and taste of a stormy sea. The aroma is of a classic gin, right from the start with a stronger punch. The notes of juniper and a defined aroma of the sea. On the palate the juniper is pervalent through the drink, giving a delicious dryness. Whilst citrus is present, due to the higher alcohol content its more in the background - and the spice notes come through stronger here. A definite refined and contemporary Finnish Navy Strength gin. Read more about Heidell Distillery Perfect Serve We loved this in a super powered Gin & Tonic, with Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic. Take a large glass and add a single large cube of ice. Add 50ml of gin, and gently pour over 150 - 200ml of the tonic. Stir gently and garnish with a slice of lemon.

Gin Mare Capri 1L

Gin Mare Capri 1L

Gin Mare Capri A place which conjures images of elegance, style and the Italian lifestyle.... the island of Capri, in the gulf of Naples. It is from here that Gin Mare have taken inspiration for their new Gin, ten years after creating their iconic Mediterranean gin. In a beautiful blue glass bottle, inspiration has been taken from the famous Blue Caves of Capri, and the quality feel continues with a canvas printed label. A collar label, in the shape of the Island rounds this off hung delicately from the neck of the bottle. Two new ingredients make themselves known in this edition; In keeping with their other botanicals (all from the mediterranean region) these are Lemons from Capri and bergamot. These are added to the distinctive, mediterranean botanicals found in Gin Mare, being Arbequina Olives from Spain, Basil from Italy, Rosemary from Greece, and Thyme from Turkey. They keep the same artisinal approach in making this gin as they do in the original Gin Mare. The citrus fruits are all peeled by hand, before being macerated for 12 months in small containers. This ensures a real depth of flavour. The flavours and aromas of this edition are reminiscent of its older brother, but with the added enrichment of deeper herbal and citrus profiles (both in taste, and aroma) from the lemons and bergamot. Read more about Gin Mare Perfect Serve Like its older brother, the flavours in this gin stand for themselves, and work particulary well with Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic Water (it doesn't overpower the gin, and allows the additional botanicals to come through). Use 50ml of gin with 150 / 200ml (depending how strong you like it), combine over ice in a large copa-glass and garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a slice of lemon.

Lighthouse Gin Hawthorne Edition 70cl

Lighthouse Gin Hawthorne Edition 70cl

Lighthouse Gin Hawthorne Edition Coming all of the way from New Zealand, you know this gin is going to be something special. Made on the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand, this gin comes from Martinborough. It is here that the namesame of the gin comes from, a great cast-iron lighthouse , the Cape Palliser Lighthouse which is immortalised on every bottle. (It actually came all the way from the UK in 1896 when New Zealand was still a British colony). Lighthouse's Hawthorne Edition is their Navy-Strength edition, and is bottled at 57% abv. This increased alcohol content holds a great amount of the essential oils and flavourings in the gin, and so the flavours are really increased here.  Just like its brother, the Hawthorne edition uses the same unique blend of botanicals, which master distiller Neil Catherall spent years researching before establishing Lighthouse Gin in 2005. These botanicals include fresh zest from New Zealand Navel oranges and Yen Ben lemons, which really makes this a special gin. (The other botanicals they use are juniper berries, coriander seed, cinnamon, almonds, cassia bark, orris root and liquorice root.) The attention to details continues in the water they use. It travels from high in the Rimutaka Ranges, filtering down to a spring beside the breathtaking Wharekauhau Country Estate in Palliser Bay. The Hawthorne Edition takes the delicious flavours found in their classic gin and turns up the flavour dial on them. Whereas the classic is softer with the botanical notes, this is intense and peppery. However it still retains its citrus forward notes, and a strong earthy note from the piney juniper. The finish remains silky and smooth. More from Lighthouse Perfect Serve We love this in a classic gin & tonic, but its strength and flavour profile also really works when used in a Martini. For a delicious g&t, take a glass filled with ice and add 50ml of gin. Gently pour over 100 - 150ml of Fentimans Connoiseurs tonic (this deserves to be drunk stronger, and savoured slowly). Stir gently and garnish with a wedge of lemon and a few juniper berries.
