Stoneshard is a turn-based croissant with an open procedurally generated world in which we observe the game from an isometric view. Ink Stains Games studio is responsible for the game. After creating the well-received shooter 12 is better than 6, the developers' eyes fell on the RPG genre. Stoneshard is inspired by titles such as Darkest Dungeon, Diablo and The Banner Saga.
Aldor is a land plagued by wars, plagues and the activities of dark cults, which has become a place of contention between various powers, scouring every inch of the earth in search of the remains of a powerful artifact. The player takes on the role of a mercenary who, at the head of a caravan, traverses these inhospitable areas to do the will of a mysterious employer.
What distinguishes Stoneshard from most other roguelike or isometric RPG games is the fact that it introduced survival mechanics, somewhat similar in assumptions to those known from Darkest Dungeon. During the exploration, we not only have to watch out for lurking enemies, we also become more and more hungry and thirsty with each step. Neglecting these needs will result in drops in the statistics. The elements of survival are connected not only with the needs of our character, but also with the wounds sustained by them. Our hero can suffer different types of injuries, and we treat each wound differently - we stabilize a broken arm in a splint, stop bleeding with a bandage, and a potion or alcohol will help to cope with increasing pain. An important aspect is also the mood of our hero, which, like in Darkest Dungeon, can have positive and negative effects.
To survive in the inhospitable world of Stoneshard, we'll need a range of items - from weapons to medicines. However, it should be emphasized that each piece of equipment wears out, losing stat bonuses. This problem is solved by repair kits or spare parts of the equipment. Our character, however, is not a draft ox. There is a dependency in the inventory, known for example from the Diablo series: items have their size, and the equipment has a limited capacity, so it is not worth collecting everything.
Combat in Stoneshard is turn-based. Each of our actions is one turn, no matter if we decide to open the door, change weapons, collect an item or take a step. However, this becomes apparent only when enemies appear on our horizon, alternating movements with ours. We kill enemies in various ways. We have spells, ranged weapons and melee weapons at our disposal. Both we and our opponents have special skills at our disposal that will help us both passively and offensively.
During the game, we have the opportunity to join our caravan to companions who will support us. However, they have free will and may even leave if they do not like our actions.
