Containerization in Maritime Transport Contemporary Trends and Challenges

Containerization in Maritime Transport Contemporary Trends and Challenges

Containerization provides optimization of handling processes in terms of intermodality and efficient cargo handling and maritime transport in particular it provides further optimization of shipping processes in terms of volume and distance. Containerization has become the most significant factor stimulating the development of modern global trade. With the progress of globalization taken into account (longer distances and increasing cargo volumes) it can be seen that cargo becomes predestined to be transported by sea which encourages ship owners to enlarge their fleets of container ships. Containerization in Maritime Transport: Contemporary Trends and Challenges addresses the key challenges to maritime transport and containerization beginning with economic and managerial factors through organizational technical operational information and IT challenges and ending with ecological challenges—ideally to lessen the environmental impacts of maritime transport. Features: Discusses the latest technological advances in shipping including augmented reality (AR) virtual reality (VR) artificial intelligence (AI) 5G networks smart camera and computer vision systems and digital twin technology. Presents ecological considerations and solutions that are indispensable to develop efficient and safe green supply chains. Examines the economic aspects of shipping with regard to transport and container handling costs in international trade. | Containerization in Maritime Transport Contemporary Trends and Challenges

Universities Stakeholders and Social Mission Building Cooperation Through Action Research

Universities Stakeholders and Social Mission Building Cooperation Through Action Research

Today's universities are confronted with questions about the increasing scale of corporatisation and commercialisation as well as their decreasing activity in the field of the social mission i. e. engagement in the real problems of ordinary people local communities and society at large. As a remedy for this problem this book proposes using action research as a means of shaping collaboration between universities and their stakeholders taking into account related benefits opportunities and challenges. In this context we understand action research somewhat more broadly as universities’ conducting useful research that becomes a domain of their social mission. The core message of this volume is the development of a cooperation process in which the university leaves its ivory tower builds relationships with its stakeholders and as a result engages more effectively in social life. In this book readers will find an original perspective on action research the application of which enables mutual benefits for universities and their stakeholders. It presents the authors’ original model of cooperation based on the AR approach and concrete examples of successful cooperation between universities and their stakeholders. Step by step it illustrates how to initiate cooperation conduct useful scientific research and together with stakeholders bring about changes in social life. This book will be of value to university managers academics students of social management and economic sciences as well as managers and specialists employed in organisations from various sectors that may be interested in cooperation with universities. Cyber Resilience

Cyber Resilience

Modern cyber systems acquire more emergent system properties as far as their complexity increases: cyber resilience controllability self-organization proactive cyber security and adaptability. Each of the listed properties is the subject of the cybernetics research and each subsequent feature makes sense only if there is a previous one. Cyber resilience is the most important feature of any cyber system especially during the transition to the sixth technological stage and related Industry 4. 0 technologies: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cloud and foggy computing 5G + IoT/IIoT Big Data and ETL Q-computing Blockchain VR/AR etc. We should even consider the cyber resilience as a primary one because the mentioned systems cannot exist without it. Indeed without the sustainable formation made of the interconnected components of the critical information infrastructure it does not make sense to discuss the existence of 4. 0 Industry cyber-systems. In case when the cyber security of these systems is mainly focused on the assessment of the incidents' probability and prevention of possible security threats the cyber resilience is mainly aimed at preserving the targeted behavior and cyber systems' performance under the conditions of known (about 45 %) as well as unknown (the remaining 55 %) cyber attacks. This monograph shows that modern Industry 4. 0. Cyber systems do not have the required cyber resilience for targeted performance under heterogeneous mass intruder cyber-attacks. The main reasons include a high cyber system structural and functional complexity a potential danger of existing vulnerabilities and “sleep” hardware and software tabs as well as an inadequate efficiency of modern models methods and tools to ensure cyber security reliability response and recovery.
