Cydonia oblonga Champion Quince Tree for Sale Online UK

Cydonia oblonga Champion Quince Tree for Sale Online UK

Cydonia oblonga Champion, or Quince Tree Champion, has so many desirable qualities that it is difficult to list them all! From its delicious autumn fruits, to its lovely spring blossoms, and its small size suitable for any space, this lovely fruit tree will fit in anywhere! Cydonia oblonga was a favourite fruit tree in the ancient Mediterranean, where it was cultivated by the Greeks and Romans. The first records of Quince being grown in the UK are from 1275 when Edward I planted four at the Tower of London. Cydonia oblonga Champion was bred in the late 1900’s in the United States, and is one of the most dependable Quince Tree varieties. In early spring, the dark green, leathery leaves emerge, followed by the blossoms in late May into June. The pale pink single flowers, similar to apple blossoms, are scattered over the crown, followed by fruits which are green but turn a golden yellow in autumn. When placed in a bowl in the house, the fragrance of even one ripe quince will perfume the entire room.Hardy in most parts of the UK, Cydonia oblonga Champion will grow to a mature height and spread of just 2 metres in 5 to 10 years, but can easily be pruned in late winter to maintain a smaller size. Like most Quinces, Cydonia oblonga Champion is self-pollinating so you do not need to plant more than one variety.Plant Cydonia oblonga Champion in a sheltered position in full sun, in moist but well-drained sand, clay or loam soil with an acid to neutral pH. This variety will do well in very wet soils. Since it is not tolerant of salt, it should be protected from sea winds in coastal regions, but can be grown easily in cities, as it is very tolerant of pollution. As Cydonia oblonga Champion is deer-resistant, it can be grown without special protection in country locations. The small size and ornamental qualities of Cydonia oblonga Champion make it a lovely addition to an informal cottage or small garden, and since it will do well in wet soil, it can be planted next to a pond or stream. Cydonia oblonga Champion, like all Quince Trees, will give you not only the beauty of its spring blossoms, but a bountiful harvest of fragrant, ornamental fruit in autumn! Lots more to choose from in our fruiting trees section. Tip: Cydonia Oblonga is the family of fruiting quinces grown primarily for their fruit. The ornamental or flowering quinces are a different classification and known as Chaenomeles – e.g. Chaenomeles Superba Pink Lady.

Ginkgo Biloba Eiffel Maidenhair Tree Eiffel Deciduous Conifer

Ginkgo Biloba Eiffel Maidenhair Tree Eiffel Deciduous Conifer

Ginkgo Biloba Eiffel, also known as Maidenhair Tree Eiffel, is a beautiful new variety of an ancient cultivar. The Ginkgo family of trees is unique in many aspects: these cultivars are deciduous conifers (which is unusual) and considered to be “living fossils.” Ginkgo Biloba is the only survivor of the species that existed 270 million years ago, even before the dinosaurs came to be.Today’s Ginkgo trees are virtually unchanged and keep the notable qualities of their ancestors. These deciduous conifers are exceptionally robust, adaptable, and highly-decorative. Maidenhair Tree Eiffel is no different when it comes to endurance and resiliency, and offers very attractive pyramidal growth habit and excellent autumn colour. During the growing season, the distinctive fan-shaped leaves of the tree are a medium green hue, but in the autumn, the foliage turns to a vibrant golden yellow.Height and Spread of Ginkgo Biloba EiffelSince this is a relatively new variety of an extremely long-lived tree, its ultimate height cannot be determined with absolute certainty. But, considering its habit, this cultivar should reach a maximum height of 8 to 12 metres, as it is more compact than its close relatives. How Hardy Is Quercus Ginkgo Biloba EiffelMaidenhair Tree Eiffel belongs to species that survived two ice ages and extinction of dinosaurs. This tree is exceptionally tough, and it is fully hardy in the United Kingdom. How To Use Ginkgo Biloba EiffelWith its attractive appearance and relatively compact size, Maidenhair Tree Eiffel is an ideal candidate for a specimen tree, primarily in medium to large gardens. The lush, interesting foliage will offer interest throughout the season, and beautifully complement showier flowering cultivars.Since it is tolerant of urban pollution, this deciduous conifer is also an excellent choice for a street tree. How To Care For Ginkgo Biloba EiffelEasy to grow, Ginkgo Biloba Eiffel needs very little care to thrive. This tree will adapt to almost any soil, as long as it is fertile, deep, and has good drainage (Ginkgos do not do well in waterlogged soils). A low-maintenance tree, this compact variety requires no routine pruning. Removing any dead, congested, or damaged shoots will keep its habit neat and the tree healthy.Treasured for its good autumn colour and attractive overall appearance, Maidenhair Tree Eiffel is perfectly suited to serve as a focus of interest in the garden. Its unusual, distinctive foliage will provide beautiful texture and decorative value throughout the year. Pair it with ornamental grasses, such as Hakonechloa macra Aureola, Imperata Red Baron, or Miscanthus Sinensis Variegatus for an Asian-inspired garden theme.

Magnolia Heaven Scent. Magnolias Nursery. London & Online UK

Magnolia Heaven Scent. Magnolias Nursery. London & Online UK

Magnolia Heaven Scent is a flowering magnolia with pale pink globlet shaped flowers with a waxy appearance. The scent from these magnolias is very delicate citrus. We rate this variety as an amazing early flowering magnolia that developes into a small upright ornamental tree. One of the most popular, Heaven Scent is best known for its profusion of fragrant flowers in the spring. Unfolding from large, vase-shaped buds, the blossoms are blush pink with a magenta stripe on the outside and delicate white on the inner side of the petals. Unlike most Magnolia varieties, this specific cultivar has a prolonged flowering season, allowing you to enjoy the remarkable scented blossoms for 4 to 6 weeks. The foliage develops after the flowers, and the glossy, dark green leaves completely envelop the upright branches.Growing Tip: Plant in a fairly sheltered area of the garden, these shrubs prefer full sun to partial shade and avoid over pruning. For best results, plant this large flowering shrub in acidic to neutral soil, moist but well-drained. Avoid transplanting or unsettling the soil around it, since this cultivar does not appreciate disturbance. This ornamental shrub with a columnar habit can grow to be 8 to 12 metres high and spread wider than 12 metres, when fully mature. However, most specimens of this cultivar do not exceed 4 metres, both in height and width, even in optimal conditions. A hybrid bred in the USA, Magnolia Heaven Scent is fully hardy in Britain and Ireland. Although it can withstand winter temperatures up to -15 degrees, the flower buds can be damaged by late spring frost and strong winds, so this shrub might need sheltering in areas with severe winters.Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign that it will perform well in most gardens. The attractive, scented blossoms and the prolonged flowering season make this showy tree-like shrub perfect choice for a statement plant, especially for smaller gardens. Free-flowering, Magnolia Heaven Scent works well as a contrast or accentuating plant when grown against an evergreen hedge, or an evergreen shrub border.Paramount Plants specialises in Magnolias to buy online. Other flowering magnolias include Magnolia Soulangeana and Magnolia Loebneri Leonard Messel.

Acacia Dealbata Mimosa. Yellow Mimosa Trees for Sale UK IRL

Acacia Dealbata Mimosa. Yellow Mimosa Trees for Sale UK IRL

Acacia Dealbata, also known as Mimosa, is an evergreen tree native to Tasmania. If you’ve ever noticed a tall dramatic shrub with feathery foliage and a spray of pom-pom yellow flowers it’s likely to be a Mimosa. Acacia Dealbata can grow to a height of ten metres but it’s easily pruned if you have a smaller garden. Its leaves are fern-like grey-green individual feathers that are evergreen and look attractive even without its dramatic flowers. In late winter or early spring fluffy yellow balls appear on the branch tips from January to April. They are highly scented and attractive to early-waking pollinators. The RHS has given Acacia Dealbata the Award of Garden Merit AGM for its attractive nature and reliability. How Hardy Is Acacia DealbataAcacia Dealbata is hardy in warmer parts of the UK such as coastal areas. It will not thrive in consistently colder winds or more northern areas of the UK. In very cold winters Mimosa will hold off flowering until late spring. Container grown Acacia Dealbata can be moved to a frost-free environment for protection in cooler climates whilst younger garden planted specimens benefit from cover during frosts. How To Use Acacia DealbataAcacia Dealbata can grow to ten metres over twenty years, so it does need space. It suits the back of a flower bed against a south-facing wall, or as a specimen tree in the lawn. You can grow a Mimosa in a container if you re-pot it as it grows in size. Alternatively you can grow an Acacia Dealbata in the conservatory. How To Care For Acacia DealbataAcacia Dealbata will grow outdoors in neutral to acid well-drained soil. A sheltered location with full sun is best for bright blooms and healthiest growth. As they grow Mimosa becomes hardier, but young specimen will require frost protection. You can prune a mimosa lightly at the end of the flowering season, but do not leave it years before cutting back heavily as this can prevent flowering and damage the shrub. Dig well-rotted manure around it roots in the winter and water young specimens in hot spells. Mature Mimosas rarely need watering as they are drought tolerant. Acacia Dealbata shrubs are garden show-stoppers in bloom. If you want a shrub that will mature into an attractive evergreen tree and provide a glorious burst of bright yellow after a dull winter Mimosa is for you.

Arbutus Unedo Standard Tree - Standard Strawberry Tree

Arbutus Unedo Standard Tree - Standard Strawberry Tree

This Arbutus Unedo is shaped as a Standard or Clear StemTree. Due to its standard shape, it has a long slim trunk and year-round serrated leaves.Arbutus is a small fruiting evergreen tree. Less easy to find in the UK is the Arbutus Unedo Strawberry Tree grown as a full standard, clear stemmed tree. These mature, beautifully shaped, ornamental trees are between 2 and 4 metres tall with a long, slim trunk circa 12 cm in diameter. An Arbutus full standard Tree is impressive as a standalone focal point or given the shape, its ideal specimen tree for compact spaces and above-fence line screening. Arbutus Unedo is native to southern Europe and south west Ireland. It has serrated evergreen leaves, a cinnamon-red trunk and beautifully scented small creamy flowers in autumn through late winter. These flowers mature into strawberry-sized fruits that redden as winter progresses. The fruits are edible and rich in vitamin C, but they are rather bland tasting, so better turned into jams and chutneys or left for blackbirds and thrushes. In Portugal, Arbutus fruits are distilled to make Medronho (fire water), a popular Portuguese spirit with Tequila-like taste and strength. This is a small to medium-sized standard tree with enough impact to make an impressive statement but it doesn’t grow so large it becomes unmanageable. It’s a great choice for courtyards, above-screen fencing, and mixed borders.Height and Spread of Arbutus Unedo Standard TreeA standard strawberry tree is slow growing and reaches around three to four metres tall with a beautifully shaped crown that reaches three to four metres several in width. Its trunk always remains slim at around 12 cm in diameter. How Hardy is Arbutus Unedo Standard TreeIt’s hardy enough to withstand UK winter if its roots are well-drained, but it does best in a sheltered spot free from harsh drying winds with plenty of sun on it’s foliage. How To Use Arbutus Unedo Standard TreeA standard strawberry tree has a clear slim trunk and a freely growing crown, so it’s ideal as bushy evergreen above fence line screening if you don’t want the pleached version.Because it doesn’t get too large, a standard strawberry tree is a good choice for ornamental focal-point trees in courtyard and city gardens, mixed borders and front gardens. Its scented flowers attract pollinators when there’s little nectar around, and birds enjoy the fruits so it supports the environment too. It’s also an unusual choice for kitchen gardens because its fruits are edible. How To Care For Arbutus Unedo Standard TreeArbutus unedo standard trees grow best in a sheltered spot with full sun or partial shade. They don’t require pruning, but if you want to reduce its size do in spring. If it’s pruned as the flowers are emerging in autumn, it’ll bear fewer fruits in winter.Apply a thick layer of well-rotted organic mulch to the base in late spring and water it well until you can see new growth.

Cydonia oblonga Portugal Quince. Fruiting Quince

Cydonia oblonga Portugal Quince. Fruiting Quince

Cydonia Oblonga Portugal, often simply called Portugal Quince, is a well-loved variety of fruiting quince that produces large golden pear-shaped fruits in autumn and delightful scented blossom in spring. In early spring the deciduous Portugal Quince sprouts light green buds which mature into a rich, deep green. These oval leaves with pointed tips are lighter beneath and quickly spread to dress the whole tree. Blossom soon appears after the new foliage, and these pretty little pink blooms are sweetly scented, attracting all manner of pollinators when there is little else about. Blossom develops into small hard balls that swell up into a fuzz-covered quince, and as summer progresses the quince swell, eventually turning into pear-shaped golden weights that pull down branches.  The fruits are ready to pick in late autumn when the delightful scent has fully developed.Portugal Quince will reach a maximum height of around four metres over 5-10 years if left to grow. You can keep it smaller by pruning excess branches during the winter. How Hardy Is Cydonia Oblonga PortugalPortugal Quince is a hardy tree capable of surviving sub zero UK winters if its roots are not waterlogged, but to grow well quince must have a sheltered location with plenty of sun. It may struggle to fruit in northern areas of the UK. How To Use Cydonia Oblonga PortugalPortugal Quince fruit is best cooked and used as dessert jam or jelly. The flesh turns pink as it breaks down and produces a mild flavour and texture that suits marmalade. Many jam makers suggest Portugal is the best variety for jams. You can grow Portugal Quince as a specimen tree in your lawn, trained on a sunny wall or in a container on the patio. It will fill the surrounding spot with beautiful fragrance, and suit most sunny situations in urban and rural settings. How To Care For Cydonia Oblonga PortugalPortugal Quince is self-fertile, as are most fruiting quinces. Genrally Quince will tolerate most soils but prefer a moist fertile home. You do not need to prune them but to maintain the best harvest its best to cut out dead and broken branches. In early spring watch out for late frosts that can damage blossom. Cover your quince with fleece if late frost is predicted as this will diminish the harvest considerably. It is good practice to apply a thick a layer of organic matter to quince roots in early spring to boost health, and to water them well during dry spells, particularly the younger specimens that are not yet established. This variety fruiting quince variety should not be mistaken for ornamental flowering quince such as Chaenomeles Superba Pink Lady which is grown for its blossoms. Portugal Quince is a hard-working, fruit-bearing tree with plenty of character that requires little care in exchange for beautiful blossom, scent and tasty jams. Lots more choice in our fruiting trees section.

Acer Tataricum Ginnala. Armur Maple Ginnala Tree for Sale UK

Acer Tataricum Ginnala. Armur Maple Ginnala Tree for Sale UK

Acer Tataricum Ginnala is a popular maple tree that’s incredibly hardy, easy to care for and appreciated for its display of beautiful vivid scarlet leaves in the autumn. It’s also known as the Amur Maple Ginnala. In spring the Acer Tataricum Ginnala produces dense vivid green leaves that are three-lobed and mid-sized. Often these leaves are a lighter shade of green beneath. These last throughout the spring and summer months accompanied in late summer by small white flowers that turn into clusters of red-tinged ‘helicopter’ seeds. With September the Acer Tataricum Ginnala morphs into that famous rich crimson-red leaf that we all love. The Acer Tataricum Ginnala is naturally dome-shaped in its young bush form and retains this pleasing shape as it grows to a maximum height of approximately eight metres.Amur Maple Ginnala Hardiness LevelsAmur Maple Ginnala is one of the hardiest varieties of Acer available. It thrives in almost all conditions tolerating most soils and sun levels, but will do best when grown in free-draining soil with plenty of sunlight on its foliage. How To Use Acer Tataricum GinnalaAmur Maple Ginnala is a versatile tree that can be grown directly in the ground as a stunning specimen. Because it has relatively shallow roots compared to some native trees, it’s a good choice for areas with ground work or close to a building. Alternatively you can grow Acer Tataricum Ginnala in a large container to keep it relatively small and move it around your garden. All Maple trees look stunning by water. If you have a pond try growing Acer Tataricum Ginnala nearby. Another use for Acer Tataricum Ginnala is to plant individual specimens a few feet apart as a colourful deciduous hedge. How To Care For Your Amur Maple GinnalaAmur Maple Ginnala performs well in most soils and situations but it does prefer sun or partial shade. If you can provide this you will be rewarded with an even more spectacular foliage display. Acidic or neural soils suit best as alkaline soil can impede Acer growth; however Acer Tataricum Ginnala is incredibly tolerant and will cope with most soil conditions. Mulch with organic matter for nourishment and you’ll reap the benefit of jewelled foliage from spring to late autumn. Younger plants also benefit from wind protection and shade from direct sun that can cause leaf scorch. If you want to grow your young Acer Tataricum Ginnala into a tree specimen you will need to chose a central leader stem and cut away all others to form a trunk. Bush specimens can be left alone, although it’s best to cut out any dead or crossing branches in winter. Amur Maple Ginnala is a real winner for the mid-sized garden. It’s a hardy, versatile and popular tree that’s worth its weight in gold for its fresh green spring display and fiery autumnal foliage.

It was introduced to the UK in 1902 and is named after the director of the St Petersburg Botanic Garden Albert Regel. Its conical habit make it useful avenue or street tree. Our specimens are shaped as standard trees on long clear stems. This is a deciduous hybrid of bird cherry that grows naturally in a conical form. In spring, its unusual flowers hang in long racemes of bright white five-petalled blooms with yellow centres. These bunched swaying flowers measure 18cms in length and are attractive to pollinators who gather in large numbers to search for nectar. Flowers bloom as the foliage appears giving off a sweet scent. As summer progresses the flowers turn into small black fruits that birds love. The leaves are narrow, pointed ovals with a serrated edging. They emerge mid-green and turn rich autumnal shades of yellow and red before falling in the winter months. Its bark is grey-brown and smells of bitter almonds if damaged. In summer its conical shape points skyward particularly when the tree is young. As it matures, the oval shape emerges. Malus Domestica Braeburn Apple. Mature Specimen Apple Trees

Malus Domestica Braeburn Apple. Mature Specimen Apple Trees

Malus Domestica Braeburn needs no introduction. The Braeburn Apple is one of the best known shop bought apples and for good reason. This eating apple is smooth-skinned, crisp and juicy – everything an eating apple should be. The Braeburn Apple tree was originally bred in New Zealand in the 1950s and has been popular ever since. It grows well in UK gardens producing heavy fruit crops. The RHS has given Apple Braeburn the Perfect for Pollinators badge because it attracts a variety of pollinating insects with its fragrant blossom. In spring the first leaves unfurl a bright pale green, and are soon followed by pale pink blossom carrying five individual petals. Deep pink buds open into paler star-shapes with golden stamens. The perfect pink petals ripen into tiny firm apples that gradually swell over the summer months. The foliage also gathers pace, bursting out in a darker green with feathered edges. The blossom stage is extremely attractive and it is worth growing Braeburn apples trees for this alone. In late October to November, when the apples bear an equal amount of red and green, they are ready to harvest. Braeburn is a heavy cropper, but the tree is sturdy and able to bear fruit from a young age.In winter foliage disperses with the frosts leaving a strong structural outline before spring brings the new blossom. How Hardy Is Malus Domestica BraeburnApple Braeburn is hardy throughout the UK, able to withstand sub-zero temperatures if its roots are free from waterlogged conditions. However, the blossom can be damaged by late frosts and the fruit needs sun to ripen. It will fruit more reliably in southern areas of the UK.How To Use Malus Domestica BraeburnMalus Domestica Braeburn trees are perfect for a kitchen garden, an orchard or a hedge line that has space for the tree to grow as it will reach 3-4 metres within 5-10 years. It also makes a big impact in a wildlife garden, attracting pollinators and birds.Braeburn is a spur-bearing apple tree, which means its fruit appears on jutting spurs, so you can fan train or espalier your Braeburn without difficulty.  You can also grow Malus Braeburn in containers if you are able to provide regular water and food. A container will restrict its size and make a lovely fruiting addition to a patio. How To Care For Malus Domestica BraeburnFor heavy crops of fruit, Apple Malus Braeburn needs a sunny spot and should be kept from frost pockets and harsh, windy areas. It is self fertile and able to produce fruit by itself but will crop more heavily if there are other types of apple tree are growing nearby.  Before planting your Apple Braeburn dig plenty of rich organic matter into the planting hole and water well throughout the growing season. Each year add a thick layer of mulch to the roots for the best blossom and fruit harvest. You do not need to prune a Braeburn, but you can cut back broken, dead or crossed branches in the winter to create an open crown, so there is more room for apples to soak up the sun and ripen. If you are looking for a reliable cropper, and have a warm sunny spot to fill, Malus Domestica Braeburn is one of the tastiest apples you can grow. It looks attractive throughout the year and will supply apples that store for months. Lots more to choose from in our fruiting trees section.
