Magnolia Daybreak for Sale Daybreak Magnolia Buy Online

Magnolia Daybreak is a beautiful deciduous pink magnolia with the RHS Award of Garden Merit. It flowers in May, somewhat later that other magnolia varieties and is noted for its upright fastigiated (columnar) habit. This stunning magnolia hybrid was bred in 1990 specifically as an upright columnar specimen. It has a small, slender habit that fits into gaps in the landscape.Magnolia Daybreak blooms in May, which is unusual, and despite its slender branches the flowers are large measuring 23-25cms across. Blooms are beautifully tulip-shaped with a deep fruity citrus scent. Magnolia Daybreak blooms in all tones of pink from pale baby pink to deep carmine for 2-3 weeks. The flowers appear before its wavy-edged pale green foliage that lasts throughout the summer. In autumn the leaves fall to reveal a good branching structure that points skyward giving a bare garden architectural form.Height and Spread of Magnolia DaybreakWith a maximum height and spread of 7 by 3.5 metres Magnolia Daybreak will fit into most narrow spaces. How Hardy is Magnolia DaybreakThe small ornamental tree is very hardy down to subzero temperatures and its flowers are less frost susceptible as it blooms in May.How To Use Magnolia DaybreakIf you have a space that needs a slender tree Daybreak Magnolia is a good bet. This is a superb specimen tree for the lawn, and it will do well in a large mixed border if it is not too crowded. You‘ll find bees and butterflies are attracted by its strong fruity fragrance.Because Magnolia Daybreak is slender and pollution tolerant it suits compact urban gardens and new build homes that need a boost. You can grow Magnolia in large well watered pots but they will tend to stay at a smaller size than free-planted specimens. How To Care For Magnolia DaybreakMagnolia Daybreak needs little care if it’s planted according to its needs. Like all magnolia it prefers a sunny spot but will tolerate partial shade as well. It’s important to avoid any frost pockets as frost damages the buds. The best soil for a magnolia is neutral to slightly acid and it will do well in most structures including clay. Once established it is fairly drought tolerant too. There is no need to prune this beauty but trimming out the broken or diseased stems can be done after flowering has finished. Occasional thinning of excess branches will produce new fresh growth the following year.If you want a spectacular flowering tree Magnolia Daybreak is one of the best. It’s low maintenance yet glorious scented flowers make it a winner in small urban and large country gardens alike.

Betula Jacquemontii Doorenbos Himalayan Birch Doorenbos

In early spring, catkins up to 15 cm long emerge, followed by small, green oval leaves which cast a dappled shade through the summer months before turning yellow in autumn. It is tolerant of salt, and so can be grown in coastal regions, and is very tolerant of pollution, making it ideal for city gardens. Its parent - Betula Utilis Jacquemontii also has a white bark but peels white not cream. Doorenbos is not to be confused with Snow Queen, which also has white rather than cream bark. Betula Utilis Jacquemontii Snow Queen is also a specific Jacquemontii cultivar and is noted for the fact that it is capable of producing the white bark even when it very young which Betula Utilis Jacquemontii and Betula Utilis Jacquemontii Doorenbos cannot do.

These long-lasting and exotic-looking plants will fit right in to a shady spot in your garden! Native to western China, Hydrangea Aspera Villosa are a type of what are called rough-leaved hydrangea, but that descriptor belies the soft, velvety texture of the greyish-green leaves of this deciduous shrub. However, it is for the spectacular late-summer blooms that the Hydrangea Villosa Group is prized. Starting in July, the large, deep pink flower buds emerge, opening into large flat-topped flower heads, up to 20 cm across, revealing a beautiful deep blue-purple lace cap highlighted with small mauve-white florets. One of the advantages of the Hydrangea Villosa Group is that it is not dependent on an acid soil to maintain the blue colouration. Cercis Canadensis Texensis Traveller Texas Redbud Weeping

Cercis Canadensis Texensis Traveller or Texas Redbud Traveller is a small compact, weeping deciduous tree with heart-shaped foliage and masses of showy spring blossoms. It also makes an acceptable privacy screen. During the spring months, the dogwood sprouts large, ovate green leaves that stand out in stark contrast to the yellowish-orange stems. When summer arrives, Cornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange produces dense clusters of white flowers that readily attract butterflies and birds to the garden. Following flowering, ample blueberry-like berries form that are a deep purple hue. The berries attract a bevy of birds who enjoy dining on them. In the autumn months, the foliage of the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange takes on shades of bright orange, bronze and yellow before falling. However, even though the foliage has disappeared, the true show is just beginning. The stems begin to develop a bright yellow colour. As the cold winter weather progresses, the stems turn orange and boast bright red tips. The vibrant colours of the stems persist throughout the winter months and look extremely striking in any garden setting. Cornus Sanguinea Anny’s Winter Orange grows best in full sun or partial shade. It is not fussy about soil type but prefers moderately moist conditions that are not overly wet. Ideally, the soil should be high in organic content. Once established it is easy to grow and requires virtually no care to thrive. It needs no pruning, but the best winter colours appear on the newest shoots. Cutting the shrub flush to the ground every two or three years in the spring promotes new stem growth. However, if you do not wish to severely prune the shrub, then it is suggested that one-quarter to one-third of the old growth shoots be removed every few years to make room for new growth. The flowers of the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange only form on stems that are two years old or older. Cornus Sanguinea Anny’s Winter Orange is native to most of Europe and some parts of western Asia. It has an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. If you are looking for a shrub that needs very little care to thrive and provides year-round visual interest than the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange is an outstanding choice. Recognized by the RHS as a Perfect for Pollinator plant, it is valuable not just as an ornamental climber but also as a food source for wildlife.Native to the British Isles and most of Europe, Hedera Helix has been cultivated for centuries. It has long been associated with Christmas and with the ancient religions - the Roman god Bacchus wore an ivy wreath, and it was a sacred plant for the Druids. The evergreen leaves of Hedera Helix are medium to dark green, with 3 lobes. A mature ivy plant will produce green flowers late in the year, followed by black berries which are eaten by birds through the winter months. The flowers themselves are a valuable late-season source of nectar for bees.Hardy in most parts of the UK, even in severe winters, a Hedera Helix vine can grow to a mature height of 10 metres in 5 to 10 years. Common ivy can be pruned at any time of the year, and cutting in the Christmas season is often done for indoor decorations.Hedera Helix will grow in any soil type, but will do best in humus-rich alkaline soil. Tolerant of salt and pollution, it is a good choice for planting both in the city and in coastal regions. In the country, however, it is a favourite winter food for deer and so needs some protection. Some people may suffer from an allergic reaction such as a rash to the sap, so some care should be taken in handing it.Common ivy is the classic plant for clothing a wall or side of a house in its evergreen foliage. Magnolia Blue Opal Magnolia Acuminata Blue Opal for Sale UK

Magnolia Blue Opal Magnolia Acuminata Blue Opal for Sale UK

Magnolia Blue OpalThe Blue Opal Magnolia is an unusual deciduous tree that’s rarely found in UK gardens. It produces blue-hued buds and blue-yellow blooms in spring on a compact crown. Magnolia Blue Opal’s full botanical name is Magnolia Acuminata Blue Opal. Acuminata Magnolias originate from the eastern United States but they do very well in the UK.Opal is an unusual cultivar with striking blue-green buds that appear in spring. They are large and hard to miss standing approximately 4-5 cms tall on the ends of its branches. These unusual blue buds mature to dark yellow flowers with blue-green outer petals. They open into ten centimetre wide cup-shaped blooms in late spring. When pollinated these flowers ripen into cucumber shaped fruits which give the tree its common name the Cucumber Tree.As flowers begin to fall, large dark-green ovate leaves emerge for the summer and early autumn months. The foliage of Magnolia Blue Opal gives good autumn colour compared to other magnolias before it falls for winter.Height and Spread of Magnolia Blue OpalBlue Opal Magnolia starts as a compact shrub that slowly matures into a tree. It’s maximum height of 15 metres and spread of 8 metres is only reached after several decades of growth. This makes it suitable for all sized gardens including compact urban spaces. How Hardy Is Magnolia Blue OpalBlue Opal Magnolia is hardy throughout the UK as it can survive sub-zero temperatures, but it should be planted in a well-drained area that’s sheltered from frost and strong winds. Magnolias may not flower in exposed sites of the northern UK.How To Use Magnolia Blue OpalBlue Opal Magnolia is a specimen tree you’ll rarely spot here. It’s still relatively unknown and sure to grab plenty of attention in a sheltered front garden. Use Blue Opal as a focal point in large gardens and if you can only choose one tree for an urban space, this is an unusual option. How To Care For Magnolia Blue OpalMost magnolias prefer neutral to acid soil but the acuminata species is more tolerant of chalk. If your ground is alkaline this is the perfect magnolia. Dig in well-rotted manure or garden compost and top it up each year in early spring.Plant Blue Opal in a sunny spot that’s sheltered from cold drying winds and frost pockets as frost damages the furry buds. If a late frost is forecast cover Blue Opal with fleece to protect the new buds.Magnolia Blue Opal likes consistently moist but not waterlogged soil so give yours plenty of water in dry spells to ensure it develops new buds. Blue Opal doesn’t grow well in containers or enjoy being transplanted. Pruning isn’t necessary as Magnolia Blue Opal naturally holds a graceful shape as it grows, but you can remove crossed or damaged branches when the fruits have fallen and the tree is in full leaf.

Prunus Padus Bird Cherry Trees for Sale Online. Mature Trees

Prunus Padus Bird Cherry Trees for Sale Online. Mature Trees

Prunus Padus, commonly called the Bird Cherry Tree, is a small native deciduous tree. It usually grows to a height of 15 meters with a canopy width of up to 8 meters. This tree is native to much of the UK and parts of Europe. During the Middle Ages, it was believed that if branches of the Bird Cherry were placed near the front door of a house they would ward off the dreaded Black Plague.  Prunus Padus Cherry is often found growing wild in wetlands and along riverbanks. It is also highly prized as a landscape tree. In May, small white flower racemes appear. The flowers boast a heavy almond scent. The early spring blooms are an excellent source of nectar and always attract bees, song birds and butterflies to the garden. Each single blossom measures 8-15 mm across and features five distinct petals. The Bird Cherry tree is a hermaphrodite and contains both male and female flower parts so is self-fertile.  After flowering, small black berries appear. The drupes are shiny and black. They each contain one large seed. Birds especially adore feasting on the berries even if they are extremely bitter tasting. Woodland creatures such as the badger, wood mouse, yellow-necked mouse, and dormouse also relish the sour berries. Although far too bitter for humans to eat, for centuries, the berries have been used to make liqueur, flavour wines and dye wool.   During the autumn, the foliage turns brilliant shades of red and orange before falling from the tree. The dark drupes often persist on the tree after the foliage is gone if the birds and creatures do not consume them.  The Prunus padus tree is extremely hardy and will grow in virtually any soil type. For optimum growth, it should be planted in well-draining moisture-retentive loamy soil. Once planted, the tree needs to be kept moderately moist to encourage ample root growth. Even after the tree is established, it still does not handle drought well and prefers evenly moist well-draining soil. It can withstand occasional flooding so is ideal to plant along a river or stream.  Plant this robust diminutive tree in a location that receives full sun for optimum flower and fruit product. It does not like windy areas and should have some wind protection to keep its branches from breaking. The Prunus padus grows at elevations of up to 600 meters in the U.K. It can tolerate a temperature drop down to -30 degrees Celsius without suffering damage. It is known to thrive in Northern Britain including Scotland.  The Bird Cherry tree looks wonderful planted as a specimen or as part of a thicket. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) also lists this tree as an ideal pollinator.
