“For fifty years I’ve been practicing different kinds of writing: scripture: a theoretical one for essays, one for the production of books and catalogues, and one focused on the exhibitions. The story of (my) exhibitions aims to draw attention to this last kind of writing”. - Germano CelantThis book, which Germano Celant (Genoa, 1940 - Milan, 2020) had been working on for years, is published posthumously and represents the professional and spiritual testament of this well known and internationally respected curator. It tells the story of the exhibitions that characterised Celant’s work presenting, in chronological order, a selection of 34 exhibitions: from Arte povera - Im-spazio, Genoa, 1967, to Post Zang Tumb Tuuum: Art Life Politics - Italia 1918-1943, Milan, 2018, passing through Identité italienne - L’art en Italie depuis 1959, Paris, 1981; Futuro Presente Passato , 47 - Venice International Art Exhibition, 1997; When Attitudes Become Form - Bern 1969/Venice, 2013; and Arts & Foods. Rituals since 1851 - Milan, 2015. The books retraces the exhibitions through over 400 pictures of the actual displays and the critical texts that were published in the respective catalogues. Thus emerges the evolution in Celant’s curatorial practice, from personal interpretation to his focus on historical documents, with an eye always turned towards non-traditional media (book, record, photography) and towards the encroachments between different languages (art, architecture, design).Text in English and Italian.

Marine Hugonnier - Marine Hugonnier - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

Marine Hugonnier - Marine Hugonnier - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

The volume, dedicated to Marine Hugonnier (Paris, 1969), filmmaker and contemporary artist, presents a selection of works representative of her artistic approach since her beginnings in 1998. At the border between documentary and fiction, the work of Marine Hugonnier constitutes an exploration of the politics of the gaze. His works are an attempt to deconstruct the inherent complicity between the gaze and political ideologies. His work thus aims to question the cultural and political framework that conforms each point of view. His films, which can be described as experimental films or film essays, are sometimes associated with visual anthropology, his field of investigation being the space that separates the subject from his observer. She travelled a lot with her Aaton s16 mm camera on her shoulder, adopting the posture of the reporter and the ethnographer more than that of the artist, mixing images and genres. For Marine Hugonnier, producing images involves thinking about them. Cinema is conceived by the artist as a political act. A filmmaker above all, the artist also practices photography and creates works on paper. Her artistic research transversally addresses feminism, gender fluidity, anti-colonialism and issues related to the convergence between human and non-human. She tries to reconfigure the devices of capture and restitution of the cinema to build a new regime of images. Texts by: Michael Newman, Nicole Brenez, Carles Guerra; conversation between Eyal Weizmann and Marine Hugonnier.

Otto Fried - - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

Otto Fried - - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

Otto Fried was born in Koblenz in 1922. Due to the emerging anti-Semitism in Germany, his family sent him to the United States, where he arrived in Portland, Oregon, United States in 1936. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was deployed to various theatres of war in India, China and Burma. Upon his return, he enrolled in the Art and Architecture Department at the University of Oregon in 1947. At the end of 1949 he travelled to France to work with Fernand Léger, in whose studio he worked for two years. In 1951 he received his first solo exhibition in the American Library in Paris. Works by him were shown in New York as early as 1952. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, bought a monotype for the permanent collection in 1960. The exhibition catalogue offers an overview on Otto Fried’s career: works from the early days (1950s), which are presented with a few oil paintings and almost cubist-like drawings, form the foundation of an almost exclusively abstract visual language that the artist developed later. Compositions based primarily on cosmic disks and circles, of which Fried formulates numerous variations that are very lively in colour. This creates interweaving of depth and space, of a mostly melodic sound, which he concentrates in the center of the picture and allows it to subside towards the edges. Some sculptures expand the view of his work, which is multifaceted and varied to the present day. Text in English and German.

Montezuma Fontana - Daniele Torcellini - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

Montezuma Fontana - Daniele Torcellini - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

This book explores the different application of the concept of ''tesserae'' by sculptors beginning in the 1930s, when Lucio Fontana and Mirko Basaldella first embarked upon their research on mosaic and the plastic arts. The peculiar creative process behind their creations was inspired by primitive Mesoamerican sculptures decorated with mosaics, viewed by the two artists in different times and places, and also by the growing interest in ancient Latin American art that was felt in Italy from the 1920s onwards. While Fontana and Mirko may be defined as the ''forerunners'' of the happy union between sculpture and mosaic in the 1960s and 1970s, in the following decades it is Nane Zavagno and Riccardo Licata who set the main research trends - the former, especially for that which regards the use of ''untraditional'' materials, and the latter for the use of mosaic tesserae in contemporary art. Subsequently, the art of mosaic sculpture unfolds following all of the main expressive moods of 20th and 21st century sculpture - iconic or aniconic, poetics or narrative, symbolic or conceptual - intensifying and emerging as a ''specific genre'' at the close of the 1970s thanks to works by Antonio Trotta, Athos Ongaro and the Transavantgarde movement of Chia and Paladino. Ultimately, from the second half of the 1980s to the present, research and artistic production multiplies with varying and peculiar results - also thanks to some works of international relevance made in Ravenna, such as the tomb of Rudolf Nureyev in Paris. Hence the ''sculpture and mosaic'' phenomenon witnesses a surge forwards with artists from all over the world who employ it in increasingly innovative and unexpected ways, consolidating the perception that mosaic sculpture has by now become an independent art form.Text in English and Italian.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude - - Bog - Silvana - Plusbog.dk

This catalogue includes Christo and Jeanne-Claude''s realised and unrealised large-scale projects from 1961 to 2016. Besides the famous wrapped monuments, from the Kunsthalle in Bern (1967-1968) to the Reichstag in Berlin (1971-1995), the publication also includes the barriers made with barrels or with fabric, from Wall of Oil Barrels - The Iron Curtain in Paris (1961-62) to Valley Curtain in Rifle, Colorado (1960-62), the great inflatable objects, from 42,390 Cubic Feet Package of Minneapolis (1966) to 5600 Cubicmeter Package , Project for documenta IV in Kassel (1967-1968), and the fabric pathways, such as Wrapped Walk Ways in Kansas City (1977-1978), or doors, such as The Gates in New York (1979-2005).The seven Water Projects - Christo and Jeanne-Claude''s installations sharing a connection with water - are considered in further depth. In these projects, from Running Fence , Sonoma and Marin Counties, California (1972-1976) to Over the River , a project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado (1992), the artists worked on establishing a close connection with natural, suburban and urban landscapes that all share a relation with water, be it an ocean, a sea, a lake or a river. The Floating Piers , an installation that allowed visitors to walk across Lake Iseo, is also included here. Among the Water Projects we must mention The Floating Piers, an installation open from June 18 to July 3 2016, which allowed visitors to walk across Lake Iseo and along its shores on a 3-kilometre route. By means of modular floating piers covered in shimmering yellow fabric, the installation linked the town of Sulzano on the lake''s shores, to Monte Isola, also reaching the Island of San Paolo.
