Ragtime Toe Tapper

This jazzy ragtime song has only whole, half, and quarter notes. It is a great song to hand out early on. It is easy and sounds great. Here is a concert march designed to please an audience and help the director teach. It starts out with the Concert Eb scale being played down rather than up. It is easier to play in that direction. Unicorns and Dragons

The title of this composition comes from the idea of having a very energetic composition with contrasting melodies. One can hear melodies, countermelodies, and rhythmic juxtapositions throughout this work. It is meant to be fun for both audience and musician. The contrast of dissonance to melodic and harmonic is the cornerstone of this composition. The 1st trumpet's highest note is F. Legend of the Kelpies

A Kelpie is a Scottish mythical creature often seen in the shape of a horse. It is a shape shifter that can change forms. It is a legend often told to keep young children away from the lakes and rivers. The composition starts slowly in a minor key, moving to the middle section in major with a faster tempo and easy syncopation, returning to minor and the slower tempo. This is ideal for teaching students to learn to listen to each other and know when to bring out the melody. The 1st trumpet's highest note is F. The 1st and 2nd clarinets play above the break while the 3rd clarinets do not.

This is the unofficial National Anthem of Australia. You hear it in movies, documentaries, and anytime there is a mention of the land Down Under. It is a great song on its own, telling the story of the traveling migrant through the Outback. This version is ideal for your community band or advanced middle school or high school.
