Graphic Design on the Desktop - Marcelle Lapow Toor - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The complete and user–friendly introduction to graphic design––in a new edition Now with information on Web site design, plus examples, exercises, and more! Today, anyone with a good basic computer setup can produce a newsletter or a Web page––but to create effective, professional–quality pieces that stand out from the competition, you need more than a hard drive and some decent software. You need an understanding of how visual communication works and a solid grasp of the principles of design, composition, and typography. You need Graphic Design on the Desktop. Written specifically for those who have little or no design background or experience, this accessible guide teaches you the fundamentals of sound graphic design and gives you the practical know–how to put them to work on your own projects, from initial concept through final production. This new edition covers every key element of the design process, including format, layout and page design, typesetting, color, and illustrations––and offers clear explanations of type terminology, printing terms, and more. It guides you step–by–step through the design and production of ads, posters, brochures, and other promotional materials, as well as newsletters and magazines. A separate chapter on designing for the Web helps you make the most of home page and Web site designs. Complete with helpful examples, exercises, hints, and checklists, plus tips on common pitfalls and how to avoid them, Graphic Design on the Desktop is the ideal design partner for projects that get attention and get results.

Design and Build Contracts - Guy Higginbottom - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Design and Build Contracts - Guy Higginbottom - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

DESIGN AND BUILD CONTRACTS Design and build (D&B) construction procurement relies on a project’s main contractor shouldering the responsibility for creating the design and executing the construction for a project. While the extent of contractor-produced design can vary, this method of construction procurement affords the contractor a greater level of input and responsibility than traditionally procured contracts (where the employer has greater design responsibility). Over the last decade in the UK, it has become clear that D&B contracts are becoming the most popular method for procuring construction projects; often echoing the ways in which contracts for infrastructure and process plant can be procured. Whilst D&B can provide a greater degree of contractor input for producing feasibility and concept designs, then the detailed design to deliver a project, many clients amend standard forms of D&B contracts to alter the contractors’ design input. This can significantly change D&B, deviating from the procedures set out in the standard forms of D&B contract. This book firstly takes the reader through each stage of a project (based upon the RIBA Plan of Work 2020) to provide guidance on how D&B contracts were intended to operate, then secondly, identifying how D&B contracts and their procedures have changed. Readers will find: Outline commentary and guidance on commonly used standard forms of D&B contract, including: JCT Design and Build 2016; FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Plant Design-Build 2017; and NEC4How each D&B contract is intended to operate during each stage of the RIBA Plan of Work 2020How the operation of D&B contracts and their procedures are often amended. An ideal resource for contractors, employers, and consultants, as well as those studying construction at university, Design and Build Contracts offers helpful commentary and guidance for how each stage of a D&B engineering or construction project should progress.

Open Channel Design - Ernest W. Tollner - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Open Channel Design - Ernest W. Tollner - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

OPEN CHANNEL DESIGN A fundamental knowledge of flow in open channels is essential for the planning and design of systems to manage water resources. Open channel design has applications within many fields, including civil engineering, agriculture, hydrology, geomorphology, sedimentology, environmental fluid and sediment dynamics and river engineering. Open Channel Design: Fundamentals and Applications covers permissible velocity, tractive force, and regime theory design methodologies and applications. Hydraulic structures for flow control and measurement are covered. Flow profiles and their design implications are covered. Sediment transport mechanics and moveable boundaries in channels are introduced. Finally, a brief treatment of the St. Venant equations and Navier-Stokes equations are introduced as topics to be explored in more advanced courses. The central goal is to prepare students for work in engineering offices where they will be involved with aspects of land development and related consulting work. Students will also be prepared for advanced courses that will involve computational fluid dynamics approaches for solving 2-d and 3-d problems in advanced graduate level courses. Offering a fresh approach, Open Channel Design: Fundamentals and Applications prepares students for work in engineering offices where they will be involved with aspects of land development and related consulting work. It also introduces the reader to software packages including Mathematica, HecRas and HY8, all widely used in professional settings.

An Effective Strategy for Safe Design in Engineering and Construction - Andy Painting - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

An Effective Strategy for Safe Design in Engineering and Construction - Andy Painting - Bog - John Wiley and Sons Ltd - Plusbog.dk

AN EFFECTIVE STRATEGY FOR SAFE DESIGN IN ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION Practically and efficiently implement the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations in any project In An Effective Strategy for Safe Design, safety and risk professionals David England and Dr Andy Painting provide a comprehensive exploration of the design process, from initial idea to the validation of the product in service, from a product and project safety perspective. In that context, the authors show how the appropriate implementation of the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 can not only improve health and safety on a project but can also improve the project’s output as well as offering savings in both capital and operational expenditure. Readers will discover how the seemingly complex matters of regulation and risk management can be practically applied to projects via examples, illustrations, and real-world references. They will find out how safety regulation, standards, and initiatives all converge on the same goal—the safest output from any given project. The book achieves three primary goals: To improve the understanding and implementation of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015To reduce errors during the design process via the effective implementation of design management strategyTo embed the concept of safety in design Perfect for designers, design managers and supervisors, project managers, surveyors, and insurers, An Effective Strategy for Safe Design is also an invaluable addition to the libraries of principal designers, specifiers, and building control officers.
