The Songs Of Charles T. Griffes Volume 3 (Medium Voice)
The Songs Of Charles T. Griffes: Volume 3 is the final volume of the collected vocal works of the American composer Charles Tomlinson Griffes (1884 - 1920). It has been edited by Donna Anderson, a foremost expert on his life and works. The 16 songs in this volume allow the interested musician to track Griffes’ compositional style as it changed throughout his career. His early Romantic style is typified by Auf Geheimem Waldespfade , which was first published in 1909, but dates from 1903-1907 when he was studying in Berlin. His German influences disappeared around 1912, and he drifted towards French impressionism, while exploring influences from the Far East. The 3 Javanese songs, Hampelas, Kinanti, and Djakoan (c. 1917), were probably the last songs he wrote before his life was cut tragically short by influenza at the age of 35. He remains the prominent American composer from the turn of the last century.
