Franklin Booth - Alice Carter - Bog - Flesk Publications - Plusbog.dk

Franklin Booth: Silent Symphony is a massive, 304-page book featuring over 400 pieces that span the artist’s entire career. Accompanying photos of Franklin Booth (1874-1948), his family, friends and colleagues—along with illustrations by his peers and inspirations—add nearly fifty more images. A new essay by the award-winning illustrator and professor Alice A. Carter delves into Booth’s life. This biography highlights his childhood in Indiana, family life and the earliest days of his professional career, his road trips, studio life and teaching career with intimate stories and much more. Quotes of first-hand encounters with Booth by his students, friends and fellow artists also are shared. Pen-and-ink drawings cover a fifty-year span—from Booth’s earliest days to his final works. These include his story illustrations for top magazines of the time, plus a diverse and rare assortment of pieces made for poems, advertisements and prints. Book illustrations completed in color as well as pen-and-ink also are featured, along with rare sketches for an unrealized project. All art was scanned and photographed from its original source material using the latest technology and has been painstakingly prepped for this publication. Franklin Booth’s meticulous and unique pen technique has been revered by artists and students for the last hundred years. No one has ever been able to duplicate his style. Booth utilized his own life, philosophies and experiences as vehicles to project his thoughts to the viewer, which makes his work deeply compelling and infused with his respect for nature and art. He always listened to his own voice and developed a style that was not a natural product of his era. This allowed his work to become timeless and to continue capturing audiences today. Franklin Booth’s influence can still be seen in modern comic books, fantasy illustrations, concept art and films. The magnitude of his art is made for the big screen, with his figures in epic scenes. His work has made its way through decades of shifting genres and changes in the art world and is still as immediate today as it was in the early twentieth century.

Portfolio - Mark Schultz - Bog - Flesk Publications - Plusbog.dk

A compelling showcase spanning seven transformative years. During an impressive period—2005 through 2012—Mark Schultz turned his attention to producing a body of personal works and private commissions. The results, collected in the five Various Drawings volumes, focused on subjects about which Schultz feels most passionate. Among them are characters and tableaux pulled from mythology, science-fantasy and pulp adventure, featuring steely warriors and femme fatales—his popular pulpette women included. Schultz''s Xenozoic world is profusely explored through a series of dynamic compositions with his protagonists, Jack and Hannah, placed in a variety of impossibly dangerous situations. In addition to his self-generated pieces, there are many examples of Schultz''s commercial works done for comics, film and books, as well as renderings of newly discovered dinosaurs and more. Portfolio compiles the drawings found in the original five Various Drawings volumes as well as the cover illustrations and special bookplates. Plus, an additional 160 pages worth of material adds dozens of works not previously collected. Found within are nearly 450 fully rendered drawings executed in brush-and-ink, carbon or graphite pencil. In addition, Schultz shows his process with a wealth of preliminary sketches done for a range of projects, including his Storms at Sea illustrated novella. Add to this rare sketchbook material and Schultz’s increasing exploration of color-tinted imagery, and you have one fascinating and diverse portfolio!

Art of Gary Gianni for George R. R. Martin's Seven Kingdoms - - Bog - Flesk Publications - Plusbog.dk

This book contains all of Gary Gianni’s artwork for George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Over 300 pages of beautifully illustrated scenes from the five novels in the series—A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons—are featured alongside passages from the books themselves. Also included are illustrations from the two prequels of the series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Fire and Blood. All together, the paintings and hundreds of drawings in pencil and pen-and-ink provide a unique view of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros as seen through the eyes of the award-winning illustrator. Describing Gianni’s artwork, George R.R. Martin says it’s “as if I am looking through a window into Westeros, that I am there with Tyrion and Daenerys, with Ned and Arya, with Dunk and Egg.” All of Gary Gianni’s previously shown pencil sketches and paintings have been tightened up and polished for this collection, making them appear as new works. In addition, over 35 pencil drawings appear for the first time. The artist draws on his longtime experience in comics and illustration to offer a unique perspective into Martin’s universe. The book also includes an introduction by Cullen Murphy, who discusses the art of illustration and adds context to the pictures by providing an overview of Gianni’s career. Notes from the artist reveal insight concerning his methods and the creative process of working with Martin, a relationship that has spanned five years to date.
