Praetorians is another production of the Spanish team Pyro Studios, known for the excellent series of tactical and strategic games Commandos. The game takes us back to the times of the Roman Empire, and its gameplay focuses primarily on the fight and the atmosphere of many war campaigns in the times of Caesar's Legions. We can choose from three sides of the conflict, Romans, Gauls or Egyptians, and test our skills in three great campaigns (one inside the Roman Empire, another in Central Europe, and finally in Egypt). In total, this gives over 20 extensive missions. Each side of the conflict is different. The Romans are primarily disciplined, well-armed units that use sophisticated combat formations and impressive war machines in combat. The Gauls are fearless warriors with very high mobility and high morale.
Gameplay
The basic elements of the game are proper management of the available military resources, tactics and the ability to use the possessed or acquired combat equipment. In each of the fights we have a limited number of units, which forces us to develop an appropriate strategy that guarantees the lowest possible losses. During battle, troops can be arranged into various formations, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Some types of troops may use special formations in combat against specific enemy units. Each unit has been realistically recreated including weapons and gear. We have about ten different types of troops at our disposal, such as archers, pikemen and praetorians. All types of units have different abilities and skills.
