Tribes of Midgard for PC is an action role playing game (ARPG) survival game very loosely based on Viking mythology. If you are looking for something fun with a vague theme, this is the game for you – serious students of the Norse tales might need to look elsewhere. The game features elements of rouge like play – each time you’re wiped out you lose what you are carrying, but you get season XP which accumulate steadily. ABOUT THE GAME You play as a fallen Viking warrior – one whose soul has been collected by his Valkyrie and carried off to Valhalla – called an Einherjar. Instead of carousing and fighting all the time, you have been given a new duty: to protect the seeds of Yggdrasil from Helthings, dark elves, trolls and giants who want to destroy them, and perhaps the tree itself. The game is very fast-paced and fairly unforgiving. In saga mode, you have about two hours to complete your mission before the endless winter (Fimbulwinter) arrives and puts an icicle in all your plans. By day you’ll complete missions, but at night you must return to the hub to defend it from Hel’s minions. However, once permanent winter arrives, there are no more days, so you must work exceedingly fast! Huge creatures called Jotnar (many Jotnar but one Jotunn) seem to be laughable enemies, large, lumbering and slow, but they have a huge health pool, so you must start chipping away at them promptly, lest they make it to your stronghold and do serious damage before you can bring them down. Souls are currency, gathered from fallen enemies – and big ones like Jotnar make you seriously wealthy! You will use souls to save the tree, upgrade your village and the craftsmen, earn better items from vendors, and repair structures like bridges and walls. You will lose souls if you die, so keep track at all times and ‘bank’ them when you can. Gather resources as quickly as you can, and use tools to do so, if necessary. You need to keep upgrading everything all the time in order to cope with the increasing difficulty of the game, so you must spend your precious time wisely. For example, choose, when you can, where you want an enemy to fall – they can bring down trees etc so you gain all the resources from the enemy and the tree in one move. Watch the moon – every now and then a blood moon gives you a hard time with extra-tough enemies – but the next night no enemies come to harass your village, so if you are wanting more time exploring/ to go further on the map/ or need to gather night time resources, that is the night to choose. Fenrir is the final boss of the game. He is a child of Loki and Angrboda, a snaky sort of woman. He is tough to beat, as you might expect. Enemies cluster in camps as well as seeking you out and raiding their camps can yield nice amounts of loot – the bigger the camp, the more loot you get. In this game you must play hard and fast from the very beginning – unlike in other survival games there is no cushion of a day or so while you get used to your location and work out how to craft and gather resources – it’s all go from the moment you start the game! THE NITTY GRITTY You can play solo or co-op in groups of ten. That is to say, you can play solo, but the game is really intended to be co-operative as there’s just too much for one player to cope with easily for very long. Instead, in a group of ten friends things are much easier and more enjoyable. The game has a strong element of time and resource management, and you must learn to grab stone and wood as quickly as you can, level up NCP craftsmen as expediently as possible, and decide how and where to deploy the precious resources you find and craft. There are two modes of play, saga mode (which is basically story mode) and survival mode (which is essentially ‘endless play’). There are eight gameplay classes (ranger, warrior, berserker, warden, seer, guardian, sentinel, and hunter), each with unique combat properties to master and choose between. Shrines are everywhere, and once activated they help you fast travel to and from the village. The war chest keeps your inventory safe even if you die so check back in every now and then, even if it costs you time! Water is lethal to you – and to your enemies too! At every opportunity, shove ’em in the water if they seem to be gaining the advantage over you! It is a good idea to keep an eye on the noticeboard so you know what missions are going and how many you can do while you go about your business. Everything you do chews into your time, so learning to multi-task and working especially quickly is a must. In multiplayer mode, you can come and go for 3 game days, after which the game locks you in – you can exit through the Bifrost, but you can’t come back until much later, assuming the game is still ongoing. About the Game Gotham City thinks that the Batman is dead, but whether he is or not – you will have to play through to find out (or not) – he has left some final advice for his various companions. These friends must work together to keep Gotham’s criminals from celebrating the vanquishment of their archnemesis too overtly. However, in the aftermath of Batman’s mysterious disappearance, the gang of friends discover the existence of a criminal cabal. It is known as The Court of Owls, and is said to be as old as Gotham City itself. The cabal possess – as all villain-worthy secret societies do – its own personalised league of assassins, known in this case as the Talons. However, the Court of Owls are not the only antagonists in the game: fans of the DC Dark Knight will be delighted to recognise the likes of The Penguin, Mr Freeze and many more, all operating alongside the bad actors of the Court of Owls. You will play across five district boroughs of Gotham City, which is a fully open world, allowing you to explore as far and wide as you like. It doesn’t matter which playing character you choose, they all level up as you do, so you can introduce a new-to-you character during harder levels without losing any of your hard-earned skills. The Nitty Gritty The game is designed for predominantly solo play, but a buddy can join in and help you out as a drop-in drop-out facility second player. The second player can rage-quit for half-an-hour and then come back without having too much of an effect on the main player’s game, which is useful for those with volatile friends. As you play through the levels and improve your stats, so do your enemies, so you don’t ever really have time to get bored with one level or another – the stakes rise along with your powers and abilities. The good guys’ base of operations is the belfry, because Bruce, for reasons that may or may not become clear as you play, has destroyed the Batcave. The Belfry is the game’s hub as well as the character’s daytime refuge, where you can change characters, update customisations, perform housekeeping tasks on the game, and generally get ready for the next chapter of play. The Belfry houses the BatComputer which helps to log your tasks, research and aids with other odds and ends of gameplay in a seamless and immersive manner. Ideally, the daylight lasts as long as you need it to, so you can spend as long as you like in the Belfry: as soon as you leave the belfry, night-time arrives and adventure beckons once more. Batman’s unique vehicles survived the BatCave destruction and are available to the gang – the Batcycle among them. Also surviving was Alfred Pennyworth, the butler, and he lends the protagonist a hand, with immersive and interesting cut-scenes. A final friend to the gang is Renee Montoya, a (seemingly rare) good cop. Who’s Who in the Belfry? All the following playable characters each have their own unique skills and skill trees, so choosing your character is not merely cosmetic as each level requires unique skills in order to master it. Choose from: Nightwing: Real name Dick Grayson, and the original Robin, as aficionados of the original comic series will recognise, this character is great at acrobatic manoeuvres and is skilled with dual escrima sticks Batgirl: Real Name Barbara Gordon, and, of course, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter reprising her comic-book role as Batgirl. She excels at not one but several fighting styles and is excellent at coding, making her the Belfry’s resident computer expert Robin: Newcomer Robin (the third person to hold the name) real name Tim Drake, this iteration of the beloved Boy Wonder can teleport using the Justice League’s satellite, and otherwise excels in stealth, fighting with his sturdy staff Red Hood: Jason Todd is strong and proficient with various and varied weapons, and uses the name Red Hood – which might confuse purists of the comic book lineage: it was used as a name for a villain who became disfigured and transformed into the earliest version of The Joker, now one of the most beloved characters in Gotham, bad guy or not!

It is a survival game with a difference as the combat is enhanced by the psi powers of your character and their companions, all of whom have a slightly different speciality, set in the future of an alternate reality in which humans use natural brain chemicals to create technology and form societies. ABOUT THE GAME The game is set in a futuristic Japan with a lot of western sci-fi elements infused into the design. You take on the persona of either Yuito Sumeragi (the only character available on the preview) or Kasane Randall who are both members of the Other Suppression Force. Yuito Sumeragi is male, Kasane Randall is female. The OSF is a paramilitary force whose purpose is to defend the futuristic city of New Himuka. The OSF hires people with such special powers to protect people from the Others who are mindless monsters from the Extinction Belt. Others are tough, resistant to conventional attacks and half-maddened by the pain of their mutations, able to absorb energy through their skin and channel it back as a weapon, so you must use all your wits to defeat one. They are a mixture of living creatures and metallic structures, ferocious and bestial – rather like horses and elephants fused with metal cages and equipment – and very, very angry about it all. The OSF is all that stands between regular humans and the Others’ ire, and it specialises in training people with special psi powers – called psionics – to anticipate and thwart Other attacks before they can get a grip on the world. Psionics are created when certain substances are naturally formed within the brain, imparting special psi abilities. Your character is no different. You have powers of psychokinesis which allows you to throw objects like debris at your enemies as well as using more traditional combat methods like swords. A LITTLE BACKSTORY Scarlet Nexus means red connection or red bond and this is something of a clue for players – pay attention to themes of red and make sure you follow them up to enjoy the full flavour of the game. Like traditional Zombies, Others want to eat people’s brains, but humanity has already developed ways to predict their invasions, so you and your comrades at arms can be ready, armed and waiting when necessary, along with the other OSF units. Yuito is still in the midst of training with the OSF when the Others attack. His past reveals that he joined up after being rescued by the OSF when he was just a young child. Your kinetic powers are time-limited so you can’t just stay at a distance all the time, tempting though it might be. Needing to mix up your mind powers with up close melee battles is a good way to keep your engagement with the game. And mixing your mind power with combat is not the only trick you have: you and your team-mates are able to combine your powers during battles, using the ‘brain link’ feature. You can improve your ESP powers by accessing the brain map, which is the game’s equivalent of a skill tree. Hanabi, one of the OSF compatriots is the only pyrokinetic character and linking with him adds fiery sparkle to all your moves! If you are focusing on solo combat, you can leave your team-mates to ‘battle at will’ taking out enemies and covering your back autonomously. WHAT TO DO During the game, your characters have a fair amount of open world to explore and you can do any or all of the following, depending on your mood at the time: Explore the city and find out what a futuristic Japanese-western sci-fi city looks like exactly! Learn to control your powers. Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes, and the more mind power you have, the better you will be in battle Team up with other OSF members and practice your merged skills to see the fascinating and powerful combos that you can create together Defeat the Others – obviously! Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for PC is an action-adventure game starring the ‘villains’ – but perhaps ‘anti-heroes’ is a better term for these reluctant protagonists seeing as they do good albeit with little choice in the matter! – of the DC universe and is the fifth instalment in the franchise, following on from Batman: Arkham Knight. This is the first in the franchise to not feature Batman as the main protagonist, but he does appear as a character. ABOUT THE GAME The game is set some five years after the events of the previous game. Amanda Waller, head of A.R.G.U.S. selects a motley crew of inmates from Arkham Asylum, implants explosive devices in their head and necks to ensure their absolute obedience, and forms them into the Suicide Squad. The four, more about whom below, set off to Metropolis to see what is going on. When they get to the city, they find things are worse than had been conjectured: supervillain Brainiac is well-entrenched in the city and already has many of the superheroes of the Justice League under his nefarious control. Superman, Flash, Green Lantern and even Batman are all essentially corrupted, and it is up to the Squad to save the day, with the reluctant assistance of the seeming unaffected Wonder Woman – who is displeased to have to work with criminals! THE NITTY GRITTY The game bends genres to produce an open world in the city of Metropolis. When you are playing solo, the other characters in the Squad are controlled by AI – but don’t worry about fearing that a different character looks like more fun once the game gets underway. You can switch between characters with the click of a button. If you want to play with friends, you can play co-operatively with three friends – obviously, in this mode, you will stay as your chosen character until the end of the game. Gizmo, the inventor, is always on hand to make sure you have everything you need. This short, scruffy and unprepossessing, but brilliant, character makes his first appearance here, and he will soon become a firm favourite as he equips you to face whatever might come your way. WHO IS THE SUICIDE SQUAD? The four members of the Suicide Squad all have their own unique melee and ranged weapons, and all travel across the city in different ways Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Harley Quinn will each have their own unique melee and ranged weapons, as well as individual ways to traverse the city. For example: Harley Quinn: the only girl in the team, but certainly not to be dismissed for all that, Harley’s up close and personal weapons of choice is her baseball bat and bombs (instead of balls). She will also use her gymnastic prowess to parkour through and around the city’s buildings, using light guns until it’s time to get up close to her enemies. Explosively so, in some cases Deadshot: Always the master of the long-distance shot, Deadshot has a portable, backpack-sized glider that he can use to get into great sniping position. Needless to say, he has a long-distance rifle that he is the master of! King Shark: shark headed, man bodied (sort of), this guy is a born brawler but he’s not shy about using a minigun on occasion. But it’s much more fun to let him get to grips, literally, with his enemies, when he can set to work with his powerful hands and exceedingly sharp teeth. As a bonus move, King Shark’s super jump hits the ground with enough force to send enemies flying all about from the shockwave Captain Boomerang: As well as his titular weapons, this character doesn’t shy away from using guns too. Not for Boomerang, Deadshot’s long distance assassinations: he likes to get up close and personal with a pistol or a little further away, with a shotgun for satisfying splatters… Boomerang can also teleport a little, using the power of his boomerang. He can also tap into the Speed Force when he wants to quickly burst across the environment

Extreme weather effects have made the jump from the previous game in the series, and given that there’s a climate emergency, you will not be surprised to learn that tornadoes can suck you up and give you a hard time before spitting you out again – hopefully! – while sand storms reduce your visibility quite massively. And that can be a problem in the middle of a battlefield… Instead of single player mode, but there are three main gameplay modes: All-out Warfare – which comprises of: Breakthrough (in which you try to take out the other team’s control points) and Conquest (in which two teams battle for a single control point). Hazard Zone is the multiplayer co-op zone and the place to be! There is support for up to 128 players in two teams of 64. Finally, in the ‘what’s new’ column, there are autonomous vehicles that players can commandeer as and when they need them. If there are no handy cars around, players can even request a vehicle to be airdropped to them – why not think out of the box and get a tank dropped onto an enemy sniper, and make life a tiny bit easier for yourself?
